Excerpt from the Invitation to the National Meeting from the Chicago Chapter of World Can’t Wait:

We are at an historic moment when much is at stake. At the same time, it is a moment when we, the people of this country, can and must wrench the future of the world from the hands of the Bush Regime and its heirs to bring forth a better world. We invite you to join us in considering the road forward at an important conference in Chicago in November.

Since the summer of 2005, when World Can’t Wait: Drive Out the Bush Regime was formed, our organization has been out there, directly confronting and challenging the fascist trajectory of the Bush Program. While WCW had hoped to draw on the vast reservoir of people who are vehemently opposed to the Bush agenda to transcend politics as usual to create a political situation in which the Bush program was roundly repudiated and Bush himself was driven from office, this has not developed. We have, however, made significant gains in pushing on the cracks and openings on the façade of the Bush regime, calling out its whole program of war and repression, and highlighting the issue of torture and military recruitment. WCW did tremendous work in Denver, giving people moral clarity and a new political orientation to take up the challenge of confronting and repudiating these horrific aspects of the Bush regime….

As we witness so much hope and energy misplaced in this election, the words of World Can’t Wait’s Call still ring true, highlighting the fascist trajectory of the Bush Regime and its program and calling on people of conscience to act in their millions to halt it. Endless illegal and immoral wars for empire loom on the horizon; the Bush Regime continues to try to normalize and make acceptable the use of torture; and the extreme Christian right, contrary to the thinking of many, still has a solid foothold in the highest offices in the land….

Answers to these crucial questions remain uncertain…Will an Obama victory sufficiently appease the people as the fascist, imperialistic trajectory continues forward? Or, will the people of this country, acting independently of politics as usual, rise to this challenge, mobilizing to bring to a halt the Bush program…? We in our millions who hate all that the Bush program has wrought have a moral responsibility to the world to do just that.

Now, more than ever, World Can’t Wait is a needed vehicle and we are not going away. If you truly believe politics as usual cannot meet the enormity of the current situation, this current crisis, then join World Can’t Wait in Chicago on November 22 and 23 for the national conference where we will examine where we’ve been, what we’ve accomplished, where we need to go, and what we need to do in this next phase to decisively defeat, repudiate, and reverse the Bush program. WCW invites all our friends and allies to join in planning, attending, and contributing to the shape of our movement. Contact us as soon as possible about participating. Truly, the world can’t wait. Join us.

From the Call to Drive Out the Bush Regime:

YOUR GOVERNMENT, on the basis of outrageous lies, is waging a murderous and utterly illegitimate war in Iraq, with other countries in their sights.

YOUR GOVERNMENT is openly torturing people, and justifying it.

YOUR GOVERNMENT puts people in jail on the merest suspicion, refusing them lawyers, and either holding them indefinitely or deporting them in the dead of night.

YOUR GOVERNMENT is moving each day closer to a theocracy, where a narrow and hateful brand of Christian fundamentalism will rule.

YOUR GOVERNMENT suppresses the science that doesn’t fit its religious, political and economic agenda, forcing present and future generations to pay a terrible price.

YOUR GOVERNMENT is moving to deny women here, and all over the world, the right to birth control and abortion.

YOUR GOVERNMENT enforces a culture of greed, bigotry, intolerance and ignorance.
