All Charges Dropped Against Pigs Who Murdered Freddie Gray
A Prosecutor’s Revelations... a SYSTEM of IN-Justice
July 27, 2016 | Revolution Newspaper | revcom.us
Today, Baltimore prosecutor Marilyn Mosby announced that she was dropping all remaining charges against pigs that murdered Freddie Gray. Four of them have already been tried without any convictions. Now they will all walk free.
Mosby’s explanation for dropping the charges was—in large part—that police sabotaged the case and that there was nothing she could do about it. That is true. And it only makes the decision to let these murdering pigs walk all the more outrageous and unacceptable. And it is only part of the story...
Revelations from Marilyn Mosby
Freddie Gray
Marilyn Mosby said there were police “interrogations that were conducted without asking the most poignant questions.” She said there were “lead detectives that were completely uncooperative and started a counter-investigation to disprove the state’s case by not executing search warrants pertaining to text messages among officers involved in the case.” She said police “[created] videos to disprove the state’s case without our knowledge.”
Police came up with supposed investigation notes to claim the medical examiner did not rule Freddie Gray’s death a homicide. This, despite the fact that the examiner insisted in court that she never ruled this as anything but a homicide. Mosby said these were “notes that were drafted after the case was launched” and were provided to the police lawyers “months prior to turning them over to the state.”
Mosby said, “Whether investigating, interrogating, testifying, corroborating or even complying with the state, we’ve all bore witness to an inherent bias that is a direct result of when police police themselves.” And she said that under the current “criminal justice system, we could try this case, a hundred times, and cases just like it, and we would still end up with the same result.”
All of this reveals, once again, that there has been NO JUSTICE for Freddie Gray, and for that matter, hundreds like him.
It must be added that after exposing how police sabotaged these cases, Marilyn Mosby listed reforms that she claimed would produce real change. She announced new body and truck cameras for Baltimore police. But how many times have police murdered people with cameras on—or mysteriously not functioning? She announced “new” rules that police have to seatbelt people. But those rules were already basically in effect when police murdered Freddie Gray. She announced conversations and commissions. But over and over those commissions do nothing but enable police murder.
And there is more to the story. The police were not alone in ensuring that there would be no justice for Freddie Gray.
A Judge, a Trial... A SYSTEM Working Like It Is Supposed to Work
After police murdered Freddie Gray in April of last year, video of the pigs brutalizing him went viral, as did outrage. Most importantly, people in Baltimore—especially angry, bold youths—rose up. And even as the system came down on them, others took to the streets in protest. All this went on while exposés, uprisings, and rebellions had put a spotlight on the epidemic of police murder and terror in America. That anger and outrage, along with the ugly nature of the U.S. being exposed to millions, had a lot to do with major players in the ruling class deciding to press charges against six police involved in Freddie Gray’s murder. In announcing the charges, Mosby said, “To the people of Baltimore and the demonstrators across America. I heard your call for ‘no justice, no peace.’ Your peace is sincerely needed as I work to deliver justice on behalf of this young man.”
With the eyes of the world on the trials of these murdering police, the powers that be put Judge Barry Williams in charge. The media pumped out major “background” stories telling people that because of his “investigation and prosecution of police misconduct cases for the U.S. Justice Department” Williams was “uniquely prepared” to ensure justice in these cases. The system’s “commentators” touted him as “representative of the community” because he is Black.
If Barry Williams represents a model judge by this system’s standards, then judge the system by how those trials went. Williams broke the cases into six different trials—obscuring the reality that the whole gang of pigs worked together to murder Freddie Gray. In rulings on admissibility of evidence, and in his verdicts, Williams accepted the most absurd excuses for each and every action taken by the police who were complicit in the murder of Freddie Gray. In the case of Caesar Goodson, the pig who drove the van that took Freddie Gray on the “rough ride,” Williams ruled there was “no evidence” presented that Goodson “knew or should have known of the acute distress Mr. Gray may have been in at that time.”
And the prosecution was also part of blowing the case. Marilyn Mosby herself exposed that the police “investigation” was all about covering up and justifying the murder of Freddie Gray. Yet and still, the prosecution relied on pigs—even pigs that were part of murdering Freddie Gray, to present the bulk of what was supposedly the prosecution’s case.
A world of evidence could have been revealed by people in the community about the actions of the murdering police. Any Black person in the city of Baltimore knows, and could have told the court, what a rough ride is, and that they happen all the time. As it went down, the judge ruled that there wasn’t evidence presented that Freddie Gray was subjected to a “rough ride,” or even that there is such a thing as rough rides!
In the wake of outrage and uprising, this system made the trial of Freddie Gray’s murderers a showpiece for their “justice” system. What was revealed is that there is NO PLACE FOR THE TRUTH OR JUSTICE in this system.
