Environmentalists Nationwide Protest Trump’s Global Warming Denier Nominees

On Monday, January 9, in actions under the hashtag #DayAgainstDenial, environmentalists across the country marched to Senators’ home offices to demand that they oppose Trump’s cabinet nominees who “are hostile to combating climate change,” and those representing “big oil” like Rex Tillerson, head of ExxonMobil and Trump’s nominee for Secretary of State.

Sharon Kelly wrote at the DeSmogBlog:

The #DayAgainstDenial protests attracted hundreds of demonstrators in cities large and small, organizers said. More than 200 people arrived at Senator Susan Collins’ office in Portland, Maine, according to protesters, who said it was among the largest demonstrations ever organized outside Collin’s Portland office. Protests in New York City, Philadelphia, Boston, and San Francisco each drew crowds that numbered in the hundreds (despite sub-freezing temperatures across much of the U.S. on Monday).

The group 350.org sent out a message:

Yesterday, thousands of people took the next step to resist Trump's fossil fuel agenda with nationwide protests against the climate deniers in charge of his White House cabinet. Their message ended: “The actions yesterday are just one step in the resistance to Trump's agenda. We'll need to do more—but stepping out in the streets and jamming the phone lines, before hearings start, is crucial to building the movement we need for what’s to come.
