Louisiana: The Wanton Police Murder of Dejuan Guillory
July 13, 2017 | Revolution Newspaper | revcom.us
On July 6, 27-year-old Dejuan Guillory, a father of three, was shot and killed by a sheriff’s deputy in Mamou, Louisiana. The circumstances are all too familiar—yet again, a traffic stop ends in an unarmed Black man lying dead.
Guillory was DWB with his girlfriend, Dequince Brown, down a gravel road in rural Louisiana when a cop pulled them over. According to Brown’s attorney, Joe Long, an argument started and Deputy Paul Lafleur ordered them both to the ground—with his weapon drawn. Long said, “Guillory was on the ground on his belly with his hands behind his back. The officer had a gun trained at Guillory’s back, maybe a foot or two from Guillory’s body. They were still arguing back and forth, but Guillory was on the ground as directed, his hands were behind his back. He was not resisting. All of a sudden, a shot rang out, and Brown knew that Guillory had been shot. She then jumped on the officer’s back to stop him from killing Guillory.”
Adding to the complete outrage of this murder, Brown was then arrested—because she tried to stop the cop from killing Guillory—and charged with attempted first-degree murder of a police officer. She was jailed for five days and then released Tuesday, July 11, on $75,000 bond.
Long has given details on what happened, exposing this deliberate and unprovoked murder. Long affirms that Guillory was on the ground with his hands behind his back, begging for his life, pleading, “Please don’t shoot me; I have three kids,” when Lafleur fired his first shot. Then after Brown tried to stop the pig from killing Guillory, the cop fired three more shots into Guillory—in the back.
Long says two ambulances came to the scene, but “one ambulance loaded the deputy in and took him to the hospital. The other one left empty. When she [Brown] left in a police car, Guillory’s body was still on the gravel road.” (The cop was taken to the hospital because he says he was injured by Brown biting him.) Long says Brown never saw anyone trying to give Guillory CPR or help him in any way.
As Carl Dix stated recently: “If the brutality, terror and murder carried out by the police was the only thing wrong with this capitalist-imperialist system, that would be reason enough to get rid of it once and for all thru revolution. And this is far from the only horror this system enforces on humanity. The RCP is organizing people into a revolution to overthrow this system at the soonest possible moment. If you want to see police terror and all the other horrors humanity is subjected to ended, you need to get with this revolution.”
