Revolution's FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here are answers to common questions about the RW Online. If you have questions you think we should add to this FAQ page, contact us.

For political questions about Marxism-Leninism-Maoism and revolutionary communism, the Ask the Chairman series is a good place to start.

1) Are all the articles of the Revolution newspaper posted online?

No. Most of Revolution's text is posted onto the internet but only a few of its photos and graphics. If you want to read Revolution's full coverage every week be sure to subscribe.

2) How can I contact Revolution?

We are interested in hearing from you -- if you have questions, suggestions or want to volunteer. You can call us or fax us at RCP Pubs. We do not use email at this time.

3) What browser is Revolution configured for?

We work to make this site useable for all internet users, including people who have slow computers and old software. We use simple webpage structures and don't use frames. We test our site on Firefox, Netscape 7+, Internet Explorer 5.5+, and Safari. If some features do not work on your browser or computer, please let us know.

4) How do I use the Index?

The Index lists the titles of articles for each year. This means that if you are looking for a particular topic or event, you can quickly discover what issue it was covered in.

You can search the index online (meaning: you can get the title right off the website). Or you can download the index to your hard drive, and search it offline. (Which means that the index can then be used by people whose computers are not linked to the internet.)

5) How can I search the Index online?

You can go to each page of the Index and use the "find" command in your browser. This will allow you to do a word search for each year. In Internet Explorer the "find" command is in the "edit" menu. In Netscape, go to the "edit" menu, and then click on "find in page." You may have to search several pages (several different RW years or volumes) to find the title you are looking for.

Eventually, we will create a search engine that will allow you to search the whole index at once (and also the whole Revolution website at once). But we do not currently have such a comprehensive search engine. However, you can now already do a year-by-year search using the "find" features of your browser.

If the article you are looking for is recent, you may find it online. Revolution has posted articles since 1996. If the article was published in the RW/OR before 1996, you will want to go to a collection of back issues or contact your local Revolution Bookstore for a hard-copy of the article.

6) Why are there no navigation buttons on your article pages?

Many people download Revolution articles and use them as reprints and even leaflets. So we leave the text as uncluttered as possible. To leave the article page, you can just press the "back" command in your browser, or press "Alt+ the left arrow" on your keyboard (Command-Left on Macs).

7) How can I help?

There are many ways Revolution needs help:

First, we need volunteers to help us post new pages on the website. There is much much more material (both text and graphics)  available for posting than we are able to put online now.

Second, we need funds. The improvements we would like to make to our site require more money and equipment.

Third, we need more people to help publicize the site, especially by posting timely articles around the internet (including usenet and mailing lists).

Fourth, we need bandwidth -- we need people to share their server space with us, so we can move some of our archives there.

Finally, we always welcome criticism and suggestions, including info on dead links, typos, missing text etc.

For more information on volunteering, click here. If you drop us a line, we will get back to you.

8) May I create link from my website to RW Online?

Yes. Feel free to include our website url (revcom.us) on your "links page." Many people have already done so. It is also a good idea to submit our site to major "links pages" devoted to any of the many topics Revolution covers. It is a great way to let more people know about our site. We also have icons (right below) that you can use for a clickable link on your website.

9) May I link my website to specific Revolution articles? What about re-posting articles on my website?

Yes.  We want the material on Revolution to be widely available on the web. Be sure to include Revolution's standard attribution blurb which is at the end of every article. Do not excerpt articles or change text.

10) Should I post articles from Revolution on Usenet bulletin boards and email discussion groups?

Yes. We would like to see more people posting Revolution articles to usenets and mail lists.
