THE REAL TRUTH ON FERGUSON IS THIS:
THIS WHOLE SYSTEM IS RACIST AND THAT CANNOT BE CHANGED BY A CONSENT DECREE AND A PROMISE; AND MICHAEL BROWN, LIKE SO MANY THOUSANDS BEFORE HIM – AND HUNDREDS SINCE – DID NOT DESERVE TO DIE AND THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT REPORT COVERS THIS UP
APRIL 14: SHUT IT DOWN TO STOP BRUTALITY, ABUSE AND MURDER BY THE POLICE.
The Justice Department report on Ferguson, Missouri, let out a small sliver of truth about the ugly reality of Ferguson – which is the ugly reality of America. This report showed in some detail the widespread, pervasive, systematic and inescapable racism that permeates the town of Ferguson and every branch of its government. But then they wrapped that sliver of truth in a bigger lie – a lie that said Michael Brown caused his own death... a lie that said some piddling consent decree was gonna make any real difference whatsoever to a whole system resting on brutality, abuse and murder.
The Justice Department essentially found Michael Brown guilty of causing his own death. NO!!! Again, no trial to actually find and test the truth. Again, trying to excuse the basic fact that Michael Brown had no weapon. Again, ignoring killer cop Darren Wilson’s racist grand jury testimony equating Michael Brown to a “demon.” Again, taking as true the highly dubious scenario that Michael Brown, already shot by the cop Wilson several times, somehow rushed the cop who killed him.
Why would they cover it up? Well, think about this: if the Justice Department had actually said that depriving a young Black man of his life without due process is a crime and that Darren Wilson should stand trial for this, don’t you think that would have caused an even more major shit storm among the powers-that-be – who are already at each other’s throats? And what would that do to their whole agenda of repressing Black and Latino communities, an agenda that relies on violence by the police? This was a “compromise deal” – to make people think something will be done, but to keep full support for the police... and to put the people themselves on the defensive.
Now is not the time to cool out. Now is not the time to back off, to seek new laws or new procedures, through “established channels.” Now is not the time to allow the powers-that-be to cover up the fact that those who are fighting police murder have right on our side and more than enough evidence to show that this is systematic and widespread and part of a whole genocidal plan. In fact, everyone who stood up to call out these crimes was righteous and has nothing to apologize for. Only those who stood silent and even defended this shit should be apologizing.
And now is not the time to play defense. Now is the time to take the offense... to say loudly that this whole new Jim Crow of mass incarceration and police brutality and murder, this whole genocidal program, must be STOPPED. And to be part of the massive efforts on April 14 to “shut shit down.”
This system has had 350 years to reform itself. It has not because it can not. We need revolution. As you are battling back against police terror and mass incarceration, get into this revolution.
