Pastor Gregg L. Greer: Appeal to people of faith!

December 24, 2016 | Revolution Newspaper | revcom.us

Yesterday, the Presidential Elect shocked many when he sent a tweet addressing the need for more nuclear weapons.

Dr Martin Luther King Jr. argued for the centrality of his anti-militarism advocacy most eloquently on April 4, 1967, at Riverside Church in New York City: “A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift”—are a recipe, he said, for certain “spiritual death.”

I believe the major issue on hand is that there is no actual justification for such a public notice, in addition the timing seems suspect. This move has many concerned, and that this is not the process of a rational thinker at all. Even if we needed more nuclear weaponry—is this something to broadcast willy-nilly over a tweet? This is wrong on so many levels.

In the light of the foregoing we urge all people of faith to stand with us now to send a clear and resounding message to following:

We must see the urgency of the moment, then RISE UP and say to Mr. Trump and his entire cabinet and supporters, “WE REFUSE TO ACCEPT A FASCIST AMERICA—In the name of all that we value, in the name of humanity!”

Pastor Gregg L. Greer, President of Freedom First International (SCLC)
