Artists, Activists and Organizations Demand: “The Trump/Pence Regime Must Go!”

Calling for Major National Protests, Saturday, July 15

Over 100 organizations and individuals are uniting around a call for major national protests this Saturday, July 15 demanding The Trump/Pence Regime Must Go! In the Name of Humanity, We REFUSE to Accept a Fascist America!

Signers include actors Ed Asner, Justin Theroux, David Strathairn, Raul Castillo and Michael Shannon; Carl Dix, spokesperson for the Revolutionary Communist Party; author and educator Cornel West; singer Lalah Hathaway and musician Arturo O’Farrill; poet and playwright Marc Bamuthi Joseph; scientist PZ Myers; and a number of religious leaders including Salman Aftab from the American Muslim Task force on Civil Rights & Elections and Rev. Chloe Breyer, the Executive Director of the Interfaith Center of New York. (See the full list of signers here.)

Taking place in over 17 cities, organizers declare: “We will not accept the cruel and brutal future of the Trump/Pence Regime . . . they must GO!... Only the people acting together in the streets and public square can force this demand before the world.”

RefuseFascism.org, the initiator of the July 15 protests, is currently occupying space in front of Fox Network News at 1211 Avenue of the Americas for 100 Hours of No!—100 continuous hours of indictment and protests in front of Fox headquarters in NY which will culminate in the July 15 protest.

1:00 pm, July 12: Refusefascism.org will present an indictment to The News Corporation.

Statement from David Strathairn

“Our form of a humane, compassionate, all-inclusive governance, guaranteed us by the founding principles of our constitution, a government, remember?, ‘of the people, by the people, and for the people’, is in a battle for its life against the vile, malignant, fascist agenda of the Trump/Pence regime.

“This regime and its co-conspirators is being allowed to infiltrate more widely, more deeply, and more insidiously, into the precious fabric of our daily lives, every day, assaulting our inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness by spreading bias, hatred, greed, and distrust; threatening to tear apart our own nation’s vital need for communality and inclusiveness; displaying a disgusting example of basic human decency; attempting to establish economic policies that will only fill their already bulging pockets while fleecing tens of millions of people of essential human services; trying to pass laws of ethnic, religious, and gender oppression; seeking to control the way we choose our public servants; arrogantly and ignorantly destabilizing crucial global alliances to a frightening degree; and willfully denying, while adding to, the undisputed scientific facts that the health of our planet is under serious duress. And this is all happening right under our noses.

“We have to stand up and say NO. However we can. Wherever we can. Before it’s too late. Add your voice on July 15th. The Trump/Pence Regime Must Go.”

Matthew Shipp, the renowned American pianist, composer and bandleader

He took the bullhorn in front of Fox News as part of the #100HoursOfNo to speak about the importance of driving out the Trump/Pence regime. Afterward, he commented about what he feels is one of the outrages about this regime: “In a day when cops are murdering Black kids you can’t have as an attorney general somebody who has... Jeff Sessions is the only person to my mind who Martin Luther King’s widow wrote a letter about saying he was capable of undoing the legacy of her husband. So why would somebody go and pick somebody like that to be the chief law enforcement officer? To me that is stunning—it’s galvanizing in the mind that something’s wrong.”

Statement from Perry Hoberman, installation artist and professor at the University of Southern California

“Every day, the Trump/Pence regime makes further progress in realizing their vision of a hideously unjust and unequal society, a cruel, racist, hateful, poisonous nightmare. And much of this process is happening behind the scenes, while we’re distracted by the latest mind-boggling episode of treason and twitter... We can’t let this happen. They have to be stopped. And they won’t be stopped unless all of us join the struggle.” (Full statement here.)

Statement from Isabel Cardenas, Salvadoran-American activist

“Standing up to oppression in large numbers is always the most effective way of pushing back against the most horrendous oppression. In this way we startle the conscience of society, making it more difficult for the Trump/Pence Regime to carry out its program. We must bring together all the people who agonize and rage at what this regime is doing to people—this is the only way to push back against, and ultimately stop this regime! Will you join us on July 15?” (Full statement here.)

Statement from David Zeiger, Documentary Filmmaker

“Twelve years ago I made a film, Sir! No Sir!, that told the story of the thousands of men and women who found themselves caught in the middle of one of the Twentieth Century’s greatest nightmares, the Vietnam War. Those Soldiers, Sailors and Marines defied prison, violent attacks, social ostracism, and even death to build a GI Movement against the Vietnam War and play a major role in exposing and ending that crime. Their movement went up against the most powerful military in the world from the inside! It was insane. It was unthinkable. It was irrational. It had never been done.

“And it changed the world.

“Now is the time to once again do the insane, the unthinkable, the irrational. Now is the time to set our sights on bringing this horrific government of Trump and Pence down. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, short of that will end this nightmare. Refuse Fascism has called for nationwide demonstrations on July 15 to take a crucial step toward that goal.”

RefuseFascism.org is a nationwide movement that unites people of many perspectives and from all walks of life who recognize that the Trump/Pence Regime is a fascist regime that must be driven from power through the mass political protest of millions of people. They do this not just for themselves, but in the name of humanity.
