Protests Across the U.S. and Around the World Demand: Hands Off Syria!

In the weekend following the April 13 bomber and missile attacks on Syria by the U.S. along with its imperialist allies UK and France, people across the U.S. and around the world marched and rallied to denounce the criminal aggression and demand an end to the air strikes.

In the United States, there were protests in major cities like New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Washington, DC, as well as smaller ones like Boulder, Colorado, Sacramento, California, and Tucson, Arizona, demanding that the U.S. keep its hands off Syria. The actions were called by the ANSWER Coalition, Refuse Fascism, Code Pink, and others. Protesters rallied in front of the White House, and at the Trump Tower in Chicago. In San Francisco, Code Pink protested outside the homes of top Democrats Diane Feinstein and Nancy Pelosi to demand that the Democratic Party leaders “speak out against the bombing and the continued war,” and then joined other demonstrators downtown.

Protests across the world included:

Athens, Greece: Thousands gathered at Syntagma Square in the center of the city and marched to the U.S. embassy, chanting anti-U.S. slogans and carrying banners. Some wrote on the pavement in red paint: “Americans, murderers of people.” Haifa, Israel: Several hundred Palestinians protested in front of the U.S. consulate, and American flags were burned. London: People protested outside Prime Minister Theresa May’s residence to demand that the UK stop joining with U.S. and Trump in the attacks on Syria. Kolkata, India: Protesters burned an effigy of Donald Trump with drawings of French premier Macron and British prime minister May stuck on it. They held up signs with messages such as “Rise up, protest against U.S. missile attack against Syria.” Cyprus: Activists protested at the gates of a British Royal Air Force military near Limassol. Mexico City, Mexico: Protest banners and signs were hung on the fence surrounding the U.S. embassy. Santiago de Chile: Demonstrators held a rally outside the U.S. embassy. They were confronted by the Chilean police and some protesters were arrested.

Around the world, and especially within the U.S., everyone should speak out and be in the streets against the U.S.-British-French attacks on Syria, which are outrageous, criminal acts of imperialist aggression.
