Under the slogan "We will not be prisoners in our own land," Palestinians and their supporters declared the week starting November 9 the "Week Against the Wall." There were protests throughout the West Bank and in many cities in Europe, Canada, the U.S., Latin America, and Australia.
On November 8, about 600 people in Zabula in northeastern West Bank cut a hole through a section of the fence and tore down barrier gates. Activists from the International Solidarity Movement took part in the action. Israeli troops attacked the protesters with gunfire, concussion grenades, and tear gas.
On November 9, more than 2,000 people shut down the center of Ramallah. Hundreds also protested in Tulkarem, Jenin, Nablus, Qalqiliya, and other towns and villages. More than 1,000 people marched on November 13 to the wall near Tulkarem.
Thousands demonstrated in the streets of Rome, Italy, to denounce the Apartheid Wall. As we go to press, more protests were planned in Palestine and around the world.
