Stop Police Brutality, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation

Revolutionary Worker #978, October 18, 1998

There are now 1,800,000 people packed into the U.S. prisons -- 750,000 more than four years ago. They are overwhelmingly the poor and the young.

One in 12 young Black men between 25 and 29 are now in prison. For every 11 young Black men, there is a "missing 12th brother" locked in a cage.

Four out of every 10 young Black men in the major cities are under the boot of the so-called "justice system"--in jail, in prison, on probation or parole, out on bond, or being sought on arrest warrants.

The system that once chained Black people into ships has shut down millions of jobs in the inner cities and gutted public education.

Look at the packed prison cells of this hateful system.

Look at how this system has criminalized a generation, and offers millions nothing but the street and a future behind bars.

Right there is reason enough to rise up, to make revolution, to destroy this hateful system, and put something new and liberated in its place.

This system has no mercy. It deserves none from us.

Revolution Is the Hope of the Hopeless!
