Welcome to the forum

The forum is focusing discussion on the New Year's Statement from Bob Avakian, A NEW YEAR, THE URGENT NEED FOR A RADICALLY NEW WORLD—FOR THE EMANCIPATION OF ALL HUMANITY, and related questions.

We have posted, to begin, questions that were raised by participants during the February 6 "Zoom into the Revolution" online seminar. We invite everyone to submit your own comments and questions, including responding to those of other participants in this forum.

Science is based on evidence. where's the evidence of communist society?

Science is based on evidence. where's the evidence of communist society?

The evidence is based on a comparison of the historical record of the competition and exploitation among human beings, versus the historical record of the cooperation and justice between human beings.

It can be scientifically documented that capitalism-imperialism has, throughout its history, never offered, a decent life to the broad mass of humanity, always taken WORLDWIDE, in any particular decade. Some will dispute this, but I think the historical record proves it. That's the scientific evidence for us to study, grasp & deepen. I believe the correct Marxian term, the science, is Historical Materialism.

The record of capitalist-imperialism and its current movement corroborate Marx's theory that capitalism can only lead to the abolition of class society, or to the common ruin of the contending classes. In other words, either we overcome the rule of the bourgeoisie, and all of us run our world for the genuine good of all of us, or we face a horrible barbarism and possibly extinction of our species, and of most species of life.

There is plenty of historical evidence that people can run things in a cooperative, non exploitative manner. Study Russia, China, Spain and many less that nation level movements for equity, justice and cooperation.

Capitalist ruling classes always rely on exploitation and oppression, not broad human cooperation. That's the necessary operating mode for capitalism to work as a system! Thus those ruling classes always, ultimately, suppress the peoples' movements aimed at, and, periodically, to some extent achieving in practice, forms of genuine cooperation.

So it's reasonable to state that communism, to best of our knowledge, is the social evolutionary step humanity needs to strive to attain, and is, scientifically, the best possible outcome for humanity.

This comment also raises the question - can we really change the way people think? BA (building on Marx’s 4 Alls) stresses (in many places) that our thoughts and actions are culturally determined. Under capitalism/imperialism we are taught to “look out for ourselves” because that is the way that this system operates. But we see in any disaster the many examples of how people rise above and transform this thinking to come to the aid of neighbors and others in need – working together for the good of all – the communist way. The Rev Clubs and other revcoms are living the 6 Points of Attention. And we can learn from the example of revolutionaries of what is worth living and dying for. I refer people to the work of the Rev Club in commemorating the 50th anniversary of the death of Fred Hampton
