in 2020...many Black forces argued this is our struggle which others can join, but our struggle. Explain why this isn’t a winning strategy.
This statement is good and enlightening. I want to continue learning from the panelists and this process. My question—When the Black Lives Matter Movement in 2020 took to the streets gathering people of all nationalities, many Black forces argued this is our struggle which others can join, but our struggle. Explain why this isn’t a winning strategy.
I think this is an important…
I think this is an important question and in the statement BA addresses some of this where he makes the point that politically this "identify politics" may be proceeding from a desire to oppose various forms of oppression - even it is this often characterized by people of different "identities" seeking to claim 'ownership' of opposition to oppression....
And earlier on he says that the essence of what is harmful about identify politics is it's "epistemology" ( the approach to understanding things, it reduces "truth" to partial, unsystematized experience and subjective sentiment ( my truth.. our truth..) And while it's coming to from a different place has a lot in common with the reliance on "alternative facts: ( assertion that are in opposition to actual facts, even wildly so) and that this a hallmark of the fascists. And while it's important to understand the distinctions involved, the situation is far too serious and the stakes are too high to conciliate with any form of opposing the scientific method and its pursuit of objective reality...
Straight up - this method will never allow you to understand the what is happening under the surface, to understand the driving causes of things, and arrive at an understanding of the problem and solution. You can't understand where things are headed or even how to end oppression with this method by only going from partial unsystematized experience. As was said in the seminar we have seen struggles BLM, occupy, that filled with people with hope but ultimately without science you will inevitably end up back into the same system that is the source of the oppression you are fighting against.
In terms of winning strategy for struggle - The question is what kind of struggle is needed for Black liberation: a struggle that will lead back into the system that is the source of this suffering, condemning future generation of Black people to the same or worse if they have a future at all OR a communist revolution that overthrows the system of capitalism that has tormented & tortured, and murdered Black people for all too long and moves to get BEYOND all forms of exploitation and oppression.
