“Trump/Pence Must Go! Jeff Sessions Must Go!”
Protest in Philadelphia as Attorney General Sessions Spoke to Police

July 21—White-supremacist, immigrant-hating Jeff Sessions came to Philadelphia today to speak to a gathering of law enforcement officials at the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Over 40 people came to call out this fascist attorney general in the Trump/Pence Regime.
Word got out only two days before that Sessions was coming, and the emergency protest was organized in 39 hours. The Philadelphia Chapter of Refuse Fascism, joined by a delegation from Refuse Fascism in New York, sprang into action. A broad and diverse group stepped forward—some people taking off work to take part, including many who came to the July 15 Trump and Pence Must Go protest in Philadelphia. People came from the disability rights advocates organization ADAPT, the Women’s March, Planned Parenthood and others.
A major element of Sessions and Trump’s program is to viciously slander and attack immigrants and attack “Sanctuary Cities” programs and threaten cities who have them, including Philadelphia. This was a big part of what Sessions did in his Philadelphia speech, and this was sharply called out and exposed by those who came to the protest, including delegations from the immigrants’ and refugees’ rights advocates group HIASPA (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society of Pennsylvania) and the Pennsylvania Immigration and Citizenship Coalition. And an owner of a local bike store came with a giant sound system carried on a trailer to his bike, greatly raising the volume of the demonstration. A man came dressed as and talking like Jeff Sessions, exposing and mocking his lies before the crowd.
Protesters marched and had a speak-out in front of the U.S. Attorney’s Office and then had a sit-in in the street.
Dozens of news media were at the protest, and people very broadly heard about the protest. On the same day, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney issued a statement against Sessions’ attack on sanctuary cities.
