April 14, 2015. The shooting of unarmed blacks, Hispanics and poor youths on the streets of America, and the long-term incarceration of young offenders are among the most flagrant examples of failure in our policy and justice systems.

March on today!

—Rose Styron, poet, journalist, human rights activist

"Students, faculty and staff are welcome to make their own choices about attending the Shut It Down Rally tomorrow in Union Square at 2pm. Students should work with their professors to ensure the requirements of their courses are appropriately met. All staff should be in conversation with their supervisors. Serene and I are fully supportive of this event, as we are horrified by the killing of primarily black and brown people by law enforcement in our nation. If you do decide to attend the event, please be safe and exercise care."

Frederick A. Davie, M.Div.
Executive Vice-President
Secretary to the Board of Trustees
Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York

Madison high school students, determined to stop murder by police, plan to block a major street in Madison, Wisconsin, "all night."

Madison WI

Very powerful protest shutdown class as usual at UC Berkeley today from noon until at least 2 o'clock up to 70 students blocked Sather Gate. It was like the sixties. There were physical confrontations to prevent students from going through the line. Hundreds of students were forced to stop and choose another route and confront the reality of Black lives matter and police murder. The protest started with just 15 but the action galvanized the real anger that among especially the black and Latino students. 1 Black student in particular rallied the students, demanding they refuse to let anyone go through the line and marching up and down the line like a battle commander.

Springfield, Massachusetts:

Springfield, MA: “We are no longer going to sit back and watch our black and brown children get killed”

Several dozen activists took to the streets of Springfield, MA to protest on April 14, blocking traffic and creating a major scene at a busy intersection. Signs included "Prisons are slavery, police are the slave trade" and "Black Lives Matter - Shut It Down."

Over a dozen protesters were arrested.

From mainstream news coverage of the protest: "One protester explains, ‘The mayor needs to be here, see this, be arm-in-arm with us and standing up with this to let the system know we are no longer going to sit back and watch our black and brown children get killed.’”

[Interviewer:] “You saw a lot of people with you that got arrested, what did that mean?”

[Protester:] “That’s why we did it, that’s how much it means to us, that’s why put our lives on the line. This means so much to us, we’re fighting to survive.”

WWW.REVCOM.US/REVOLUTION NEWSPAPER brings alive a scientific analysis of major events in society and the world—why they are happening, how different events and developments relate to each other, how all this relates to the system we live under, where people's interests lie in relation to all this, how revolution is in fact the solution to all this and what the goals of that revolution are, how different viewpoints and programs relate, positively or negatively, to the revolution that is needed, and how people can move, and are moving, to build toward that revolution. is the guide, the pivot, the crucial tool in drawing forward, orienting, training, and organizing thousands, and influencing millions—fighting the power, and transforming the people, for revolution—hastening and preparing for the time when we can go for the whole thing, with a real chance to win.
