Film Showing: The Secret Fatwa, the Untold Story of the 1988 Massacre in Iran

Tuesday, November 22, 2022, 7 p.m.

This documentary “The Secret Fatwa”, by filmmaker Delnaz Abadi, is the true story of a massacre of thousands of political prisoners in Iran. In 1988 prisoners were put in lockdown, blindfolded and questioned about their religious beliefs and murdered if they failed this "test." To this day, the Islamic Republic has maintained a wall of silence, denial and lies about the massacre.

Revolution Books supports the courageous uprising in Iran which was sparked by the murder of Mahsa Amini for “improper hijab.” For 9 weeks this uprising has enveloped all of Iranian society in the face of increasing repression, taking many creative forms including literally dancing in the streets. We are screening this film as Iran’s parliament recently voted  to give “maximum penalty” for Iran’s protesters imprisoned during the past two months' uprising. Their statement calls for delivering “… God's judgments on these enemies of God,” making over 15,000 imprisoned protesters potentially subject to the death penalty. Stay for a discussion on the film, the current uprising, the responsibility of people here at this moment, and the potential of a real revolution in Iran.
