The catastrophes and suffering caused and exacerbated by global warming are intensifying and spreading. Wildfires. Record heat. Melting glaciers and polar ice. Oceans hotter and more acidic.
Governments the world over are failing to meet, or flat-out abandoning, pledges to reduce carbon emissions rapidly and move decisively away from fossil fuel.
Yet the climate movement is barely to be seen. A major reason is that influential leaders of the climate movement—like Bill McKibben, Naomi Klein, and Rebecca Solnit—have been pushing “magical thinking”:

But the capitalist-imperialist system can NOT be pressured and reformed to bring about the necessary green-energy transition. Fossil fuels are an essential foundation of the whole system. Only a revolution guided by the new communism developed by the revolutionary leader Bob Avakian gives us the chance to repair and protect the planet and to emancipate humanity.
“If we are going to be scientific about climate change and act commensurately, we not only need to grasp the science of climate change. We also need to be scientific about society and confront the reality of the system that we live under and that rules over us: capitalism-imperialism.”
