Stirring Up the Scene at ArtCrawl Houston, 2024
On Saturday, November 23, the REVCOM CORPS For The Emancipation Of Humanity, Texas took an art installation into the Houston Downtown Artists' Warehouse District. The annual ArtCrawl was underway, and over 100 artists were exhibiting their work.
A revcom, representing life on earth, was doused in "blood" (red paint) and cried out for help, while another wrote a message in black paint on a white canvas: “State of Emergency; Fascists take Power; Capitalism Killing the Planet; Look beyond this system; Make Revolution.” While this seemed to be an organic part of this artistic scene, it soon became clear that we were doing something different, sending out a distress call and message of hope for humanity. We passed out over 100 flyers with Bob Avakian's social media message Revolution #104, “How can I talk seriously about a revolution when the fascist Trump just got elected?” and played the audio with a musical accompaniment, on loop.
One person who stopped said, "This is a very powerful art piece," and many remarked that it was appropriate because the situation with the planet is extreme and they were interested in what the flyer said. Some people also came by to "defend" capitalism, but walked away when we stayed in character and on message.
We want to do this same action again in other locations. It had radical simplicity that we can keep learning from and improving (including by making fund raising more integral to our efforts). We are continuing to challenge ourselves and others to find creative ways to take out BA's messages, to jolt people awake and get them to look at reality and turn their heads to the only emancipating alternative to all this madness.

Creatively Taking the National Campaign to Get @BobAvakianOfficial Everywhere to Art Events in L.A.
In the past week, a team of revcom fundraisers went out to two different art events to have some impact and reach people who are agonized about what's happening, and could be open to hearing a revolutionary answer. The first was an all-day experimental music festival capped off by an evening concert. The second was an art show double-opening – of long-time feminist artists Guerilla Girls next to a show featuring artist collaborations of fashion designer Marc Jacobs. This drew an audience that included professional art curators, politicized artists with roots in the 1960s, 70s and 80s, and 30-something models and influencers. At both events we aimed to carry out an intervention in people’s thinking with message Revolution #102 from @BobAvakianOfficial, “‘Two Countries’ Within This Country—And The Whole Damn System’s Got To Go! This is not a time for demoralization and despair—it is a time for righteous anger and revolutionary determination.”

New York City
As of Sunday night, the REVCOM CORPS For The Emancipation Of Humanity, NYC has raised $1,022 for the Campaign to Get @BobAvakianOfficial Everywhere, exceeding our goal of $1,000. This is part of the $25,000 goal, nationally. This overwhelmingly has been raised in the last 8 days. The effort was kicked off a week ago in the Bay Ridge community of New York, home to many Palestinian and other Arab peoples. More money was raised in the streets of Harlem. Yesterday, we had a very successful bake sale in front of Revolution Books in Harlem, featuring southern sweet potato pies. Both before and at the bake sale, numerous people donated baked goods and money and bought pies and other baked goods on hearing about Bob Avakian and the campaign for the first time.
Making Plans to Reach the $25,000 Goal
A few of us in NE Ohio and Detroit had a brief zoom discussion of Update #16 from the National Campaign to Get @BobAvakianOfficial Everywhere and then made plans to help reach the $25,000 goal by December 3. In the discussion we especially dug into the sentence, "What the decent people do depends on what they understand and where their sights are raised to.” Several people thought the report from LA summing up the dinner sale was especially helpful in demonstrating ways that right now people can step into plans for raising critically needed funds. Someone fairly new to following BA brought the discussion back several times to what a difference it makes when people can come to see that a whole better system is possible and excitedly took on a lot of responsibility for carrying out the plans we united on.
We decided to do an online holiday rummage sale and set a goal of $500 to $1,000 by Dec 3. We immediately posted an announcement for it on FB marketplace and will shortly post one on Craigslist. We've gotten out a couple hundred texts to people we’ve met through the course of broadly spreading the revolution, and we intend to send 100 or so more texts. We’re calling on people to volunteer to help and to donate usable items and crafts.
Everyone who purchases something will also get We Need and We Demand and BA's message REVOLUTION #102.
In addition to the rummage sale, some of us are reaching out broadly by phone and email with the new fundraising letter for the $25,000 drive.
