DISPATCH FROM JULY 4TH IN WASHINGTON D.C.:
IN FRONT OF THE WHITE HOUSE, 1000 DEMANDED TRUMP MUST GO NOW!
We are at a critical juncture in the fight to stop a fascist America.
Look at what has happened in the last two weeks: The Trump fascist regime has been on a rampage with the illegal bombing of Iran; Supreme Court decisions that greenlit Trump’s fascist edicts and neutered the ability of lower courts to stop his unlawful orders; and the passing of the hideous budget bill – with massive funds diverted to the rounding up and disappearing of immigrants and the building of concentration camps, among other horrors.
It matters that 1000 people marched up to the White House chanting Trump Must Go Now! – just before Trump signed the bill. At 5:00, we staged a die-in and moment of silence, followed by the people rising up with the demand that we must stay in the streets to make real: Trump Must Go Now!
Protesters had started gathering at Logan Circle at noon ahead of a 2pm rally, bringing their outrage and determination and volunteering on the spot to help carry signs and banners. Both rallies were powerfully emceed by Sam Goldman, host of the Refuse Fascism podcast, and Justice and Kate, organizers with Refuse Fascism NorCal and D.C..
A broad range of speakers including Jim Keady, Reverend Hagler, Rev. Dr. Stephany Rose Spaulding, Sophia Zoe Kilmer, Noche Diaz, Tony an organizer with Refuse Fascism DMV and El Pueblo Unido, and Ralph, a veteran and leader in the D.C. chapter of Refuse Fascism – exposed the ongoing horrors and danger of the Trump fascist regime, and inspired the crowd with a call to courage and a fighting spirit.
Sunsara Taylor and Andy Zee, co-initiators of Refuse Fascism, went deeper into why we must put everything on the line to stop this fascism before it consolidates, and why it CAN be defeated with an unrelenting mass struggle of millions.

Los Angeles: End the Military Occupation of Los Angeles!
TRUMP MUST GO NOW!
We received the following from a member of Refuse Fascism, LA

The streets of Los Angeles have dramatically changed since the ice raids began these past few weeks. With a population of over 3 million immigrants what once had a very lively culture of street vendors has now been replaced with isolation and a sense of fear of being snatched up at Home Depots, in the streets, at work, at cultural gatherings, and much more. This year the city's official 4th of July gathering was cancelled and several others throughout Southern California were too.
Refuse Fascism called for a protest in unity with the national call: In the Name of Humanity, We Declare Our Independence from Trump's Fascist America! Trump Must Go Now! We added the demand: End the Military Occupation of L.A. because of the stakes involved in the consolidation of fascism with Trump deploying the National Guard and Marines to this city.

We led a crowd that ebbed and flowed over the course of four hours to encompass about 500 people in a fiercely spirited march through the streets of downtown LA. The march included an intense confrontation with a troop of several dozen Marines “defending” the Federal Building, in which the troops heard important truths and challenges from an attorney on the RefuseFascism.org organizing committee.

The march highlighted the humanity of those whom Trump tries to dehumanize and radiated creativity and humanity to go with the fierceness. Members of Refuse Fascism created a powerful artistic installation featuring the faces and names of some of the immigrants who have been disappeared by ICE. The Aztec Dancers projected living witness and determination and people sported creative costumes, original home-made signs and tee-shirts with original messages.

The Organizing Committee included Juan Jose Gutierrez (Executive Director, Full Rights for Immigrants Coalition), Rev. Frank Wulf, Jaime Gutierrez (Civil Rights Attorney), Alfonso Morales (Immigration Attorney and Lynwood School Board Member), Rev. Oliver Buie, Dr. Richard Rose (Executive Director, Ecumenical Center for Black Church Studies), Prof. Yasmin Cardona, Dr. Alessandro Morosin (Asst. Prof., University of La Verne), Michelle Xai (Revcom Corps for the Emancipation of Humanity). All these people spoke: bringing out sharply the stakes of things, shining a light on the background of this whole fascist onslaught, and giving direction from a wide range of perspectives on how to go forward to drive out this fascist regime.

On July 4, Refuse Fascism in the Bay Area held a rally in the SF Mission District with speakers and performers including a drag queen, a minister, and a musician. A statement of support was read from California State Senator Scott Weiner. Hundreds gathered and then marched through San Francisco with the aim of joining with the massive crowd watching the fireworks for a dance party in the streets. The SF Police blocked their path but the marchers found a way to reach throngs of people who were leaving the fireworks with the message of “Trump Must Go Now”.

On July 4th, the Cleveland chapter of @refusefascism arrived at Edgewater beach, on the shore of Lake Erie, to invite people to join the chant heard the world today: TRUMP MUST GO NOW! With musical talent from @saxophonekween & friends, daring volunteers, & poster boards spelling out just that, beachgoers joined in, held signs, chanted along, applauded and were thankful to see this call to action.

On July 4, we planned to take the banner to a City Hall rally called by the Women’s March. But after it became clear that the organizers were nowhere to be found, we took responsibility for pulling a rally together. We led the crowd in singing our song, chanting “Trump must Go NOW”, and pledging, “In the Name of Humanity, We Refuse to Accept a Fascist America. Several participants stepped up to the bullhorn to speak out.
