For over two years, Israel — with full U.S. backing — has been waging a full-scale genocide of the Palestinian people in Gaza.  On October 7, 2023 Israel seized on the reactionary attack by the Islamic fundamentalist organization Hamas on Israel, which included killing and capturing civilians, to launch an all-out slaughter.  Israel’s target was not Hamas, but the 2.2 million people living in Gaza.

Israel has ruthlessly attacked every dimension of human life and society.  Its aim: to make Gaza unlivable for the Palestinian people. With U.S. backing, it has killed over 67,000 Palestinians, including 20,000 children.  Many thousands more remain uncounted, buried under the rubble. Over 170,000 people have been wounded.

The genocide has shattered families and wiped out whole family trees.  Israel forcibly starved Gaza — with over 400 people dying from starvation.  Israel destroyed schools, with no university left standing.  They bombed homes, bakeries, hospitals, mosques, churches, farms, even cemeteries.  Israel assassinated doctors, journalists, and aid workers.  Doctors testified about children being shot with sniper fire to the head and the heart — targeting toddlers for death.  Hospitals went without anesthesia, medicine, sanitary working conditions, even gauze.  Israel repeatedly demanded people flee for their lives, and then killed many as they fled. It set up food distribution centers and turned them into kill zones.   And throughout, Israel lied about all of it while blocking the world’s media from reporting from Gaza and murdering over 270 journalists inside Gaza who were showing the world what was happening.

The following pictures provide glimpses of this U.S.-backed genocidal nightmare.

As the revolutionary leader Bob Avakian posed: “Why is Biden, and basically the entire government and ruling class of the U.S., supporting Israel in carrying out genocide against the Palestinian people, before the whole world?”

This is not because of “the power of the Jewish lobby”—or because of some ignorant, ridiculous and outrageous notion that “Jews are controlling everything.” It is because Israel plays a “special role” as a heavily armed bastion of support for U.S. imperialism in a strategically important part of the world (the “Middle East”). And Israel has been a key force in the commission of atrocities which have helped to maintain the oppressive rule of U.S. imperialism in many other parts of the world.
