A headline in the New York Times on November 30 reads, “Israel Accuses World Central Kitchen Worker of Role in Oct. 7 Attack.”
Actually, Israel assassinated three World Central Kitchen (WCK) employees while they were trying to distribute food to desperately starving people in Gaza. WCK reported that two other people in the car were also killed, for a total of five people murdered by Israel.
Israel only accused one of them of having anything to do with Hamas’s October 7 attack on people in Israel. The family of the accused man told Al Jazeera that he was just an aid worker, not a member of Hamas.
Liars and Murderers
Israel has an endless record of assassinating medical professionals, aid agency workers, and reporters. It recently outlawed the main UN agency that the people of Gaza depend on for what little aid is available. And Israel has an endless record of wildly exaggerated, unsubstantiated, and completely lying accusations to justify these attacks.1
Only deep into the New York Times article did it even mention that in early April, an Israeli air strike killed seven World Central Kitchen workers. That time, Israel called the killings a “mistake.” Those aid workers were traveling on a route approved by the Israeli military, in a clearly marked convoy. After a pause in their work, World Central Kitchen returned to Israel only to be targeted for another massacre. And this time Israel is not claiming that war crime as a “mistake.”
Only at the very end of the article did the Times note that Israel has banned the UN agency that does the bulk of aid distribution in Gaza because a handful of the 13,000 aid workers were found to have possibly participated in October 7.
The New York Times along with the U.S. State Department, and all the major institutions that serve this system, channel Israel’s lies. Not because the “Israel lobby,” or other forces have “corrupted” them, but because Israel is an essential enforcer for U.S. domination of a world of exploitation and oppression, in the Middle East and beyond.
Meanwhile, here are crimes against humanity by Israel, armed and funded by the U.S., that the New York Times buried this past week.
On November 30 Alone: Israel Killed Dozens of Palestinian People in Gaza
In one day, Israeli U.S.-supplied bombs rained terror and death all up and down the tiny Gaza strip. Among the victims:
- An Israeli air strike in Gaza City in the north killed 17 people, including Ahmad Faisal Isleem al-Qadi, who worked for the British charity Save the Children. Save the Children denounced his killing and said he had “shared his dream” with his co-workers of rebuilding his home that was destroyed in a previous Israeli air strike. And that “Ahmad … will be remembered for his determination to help others, for his pride in his daughter, and for his ability to brighten others’ days.”
- More than 40 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli air strike that targeted a house in the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza. The bombed house belonged to the al-Araj family in the Tall az-Zaatar neighborhood. A distraught Palestinian resident, Mohammed al-Zaytouniyeh, said, “Residents are being bombarded. Explosive barrels are thrown down at them, at their houses, markets, streets, shelters, schools… There is no safe place. Where should these displaced people go?”
- In the Nuseirat refugee camp, in central Gaza, Israeli air strikes killed six Palestinian civilians and wounded several others.
- Twelve people were killed by Israeli bombs while waiting for food aid in Khan Younis in central Gaza. Israel has been blocking nearly all food from getting into northern Gaza for over a month. Desperate hunger is now spreading throughout central and southern Gaza.
“Starvation… is the Goal”
On November 30, Nour Elassy, a poet and writer based in Gaza wrote in Al Jazeera: “Starvation is destroying our bodies and our minds, incapacitating us. And this is the goal.”
For over a year now, my family and I have been displaced from northern Gaza to Deir el-Balah in the middle of the Gaza Strip. Throughout this time, we, along with the rest of Gaza’s population, have lived every type of torture imaginable and unimaginable. One of them is hunger.
Gaza is now fully dependent on food aid2 .… Since last year, the Israeli army has made sure to destroy food stores, markets, warehouses storing foodstuffs, farms and fishing boats. It has eliminated police forces securing aid delivery and distribution, thus ensuring that aid is looted before it reaches those who need it. For a while now, we have been buying “aid” food, not receiving it for free....
We were barely scraping by when the situation took a sharp turn for the worse in October. What began in the so-called “disaster zone” of the north has expanded to the rest of the Strip. Israel’s nutritional terrorism has struck the whole of Gaza…. Starvation is destroying our bodies and our minds, incapacitating us. And this is the goal.
November 29: Israel Kills Kamal Adwan Hospital’s ICU director
An Israeli drone killed Dr. Ahmed Al-Kahlout, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, as he was passing through the gate of the besieged hospital in northern Gaza. No mention in the New York Times. Watch this for the story:

A powerful October 25, 2024 interactive graphic produced by the journal Forensic Architecture draws on hundreds of pages of data to document how, in the time since October 7, 2023, Israel has systematically, step-by-step, turned Gaza into a horrifically packed death camp:
