The extreme crimes of the Trump fascist regime are on display for all to see—an illegal and unprovoked attack on Iran, massive roundups and raids of immigrants, continued shredding of the rule of law. And many millions of people have come out into the streets to denounce Trump and the fascist nightmare he is unleashing on society. 

In this critical moment, the revolutionary leader Bob Avakian is providing real-time visionary leadership through his social media, @BobAvakianOfficial. He is exposing the roots of this fascism and laying out how it can actually be defeated AND continuing to bring alive a radically different way the world can be. 

We are almost halfway to the goal of raising $30,000 for a high-impact postering campaign for @BobAvakianOfficial, interacting with social media advertising—aiming to reach millions.

This week we are sharing some experiences from several volunteers who are actively taking out the Campaign, helping to the raise funds and making the need for funds more of a mass question. 

"I am always looking for openings"

** I recently had some discussion with some friends who have been taking up the drive to raise $30,000 for the @BobAvakianOfficial Campaign. In the course of the discussion some views came out that we can only go out to a few people, like old friends or that at most people might give only a few dollars. But my experience has shown just the opposite—there are a lot of people who are really upset at all that is happening and are open to and wanting to donate, when we make the case for it. 

Asking people for money is a way for people to join in with this political battle and it is a way of connecting them with others who want to see an end to this nightmare. I also ask people to share it with others as part of building this resistance. 

I am always looking for openings. I’ve been thinking about how we are going to reach people who can make larger donations. Here are examples of two people I reached out to recently: 

On the way to the massive June 14 No Kings Day protest, I saw a sign explicitly against fascism attached to a business. I later tracked down the owner and had an intense discussion with him about what we are facing, what the revolutionary leader Bob Avakian (BA) is saying and about the fund drive for the @BobAvakianOfficial Campaign. He recognizes that we have to name what we’re facing as fascism, and that we need to look at the lessons of history and what is happening in real time now. We are facing the real possibility of nuclear war and things are at a precipice globally, affecting people here and worldwide. He sees how this government is cranking down the screws on free speech and was heartened by the amazing turnout on June 14, even in smaller cities in red states, places where you wouldn’t expect protests. I agreed that those protests were great but said that in order to really defeat Trump, there needed to be sustained, determined and continual protests involving millions and this could lead to a political crisis that could force the whole Trump regime from power. I brought out the importance of the campaign to promote BA’s voice, spreading his social media messages. And I talked about the difference it would make for these to reach the millions who hate the regime, tapping into their outrage and giving a vision of how this could be ended. I sent him the fundraising letter for this campaign and links to BA’s social media. He was open to all this and we are going to talk again in person. 

Another example: I read an article about Trump’s orders to the National Parks to put up signs to report any information presented by the park that portrays American history and landscapes in a negative light. Someone who had visited one of the parks was appalled by this and wrote an article expressing their outrage. It was a good article, so I found this person and we had a long conversation. While horrified by people being snatched off the streets and by the gross white supremacy coming from the regime, he saw Trump as a “buffoon” and thinks it doesn’t “play well” to call it fascism and use that kind of vocabulary. I got into why we need to call it out for what it is, which is being carried out in a multitude of ways in the form of deportations, attacks on science, gay people, trans, DEI, and more, and help people understand that it is a leap, a qualitative change in the kind of rule we have had. I brought out how Bob Avakian doesn’t just say the word “fascism,” but backs it up with analysis and exposure of all the different ways this clampdown is happening and why and how we could defeat them. I argued that getting these messages out is crucial now because the fascists are going full steam ahead to try to lock down all-out repression and we have to step it up on our side. I sent him the fundraising letter and he said he would respond by email. 

In other conversations I’ve spoken to the fact that the future pivots on what people understand and what they’ll fight for. And talked with people about some of the important differences in BA's analysis of fascism, and what we need to do now. What a lot of people don’t see spontaneously is that we could do something about it vs. that you just have to wait for the next election. 

The poster that says “they must be defeated before it’s too late” connects with people who are alarmed at how fast and furious the attacks have been. I have presented the fund drive as an important way to change what people understand about the situation we’re facing and how we could defeat this fascism and that in doing that, it can open the possibility of fighting for a whole different system and a different future.

"Bob Avakian provides a master class in understanding fascism"

** There was a big concert in our city which we knew would draw thousands of "the decent people." I quickly gathered a small crew to set up a table and set up to distribute materials. As people walked by many of them would say: “I know, I know—it’s fascism.” I answered, “That’s good and important that you know that it’s fascism. And millions more need to know this and to understand that Trump is quickly moving to consolidate that fascism.” I showed people the pamphlet from BA and explained that this is a master class in understanding what this fascism arises from and what must be done to defeat it before it’s too late. I agitated that the fascists are moving quickly to consolidate their rule and we are out here to raise $500 so that we can bring this understanding to many, many more people. It will take millions standing up to stop this. Many people donated and we raised $252 (this was just half of our goal but we could've raised more with one more fundraiser). 

Yesterday I took materials out to a scientists’ conference to raise funds for the Campaign. Many people I spoke with made clear that they understand that this is fascism, saying that they are scientists and they can see what this is. I said that’s good but that people need a scientific understanding of all that we are facing, that the new communism developed by Bob Avakian is a further development of the application of the scientific method to understanding human society, including the fascism we are facing—and that there is a lot of unscientific understanding among people about society and about fascism, what it is, where it flows from and how it can be stopped. Think about how UNscientific it is for people to be relying on elections in 2026 to stop this when Trump is moving quickly right now to consolidate fascism. We're going back this weekend where we're aiming to learn more.

One lesson we've learned is the importance of not just agitating about the political content, but why we need the funds to spread this—so again, you're making a mass and frontal question about the need for donations, and what these are going to.

The National Campaign to Get @BobAvakianOfficial Everywhere has a goal of raising $30,000 by July 1. This will fund a high-impact poster project in a number of cities (starting with NY and DC as a pilot project), combined with targeted online advertising. 

These will drive people to Bob Avakian's social media message, and his work overall. 

As I wrote at the top: history will pivot on what people do and do not understand.

Will the millions who are agonized and angry about fascism get pulled into normalizing all this with the delusion that "it can't happen here"? Will they stay "within the confines of ‘how things work’ under this system, as Democratic Party heads and other ‘mainstream’ ruling class representatives are urging people to do"? Will their dreams stay suffocated by the false notion that there is no alternative to capitalism-imperialism, fueling hopelessness and cynicism? 

BA shatters all these wrong views, and more. He is providing answers, and a scientific approach, that people need to seriously engage, debate and take up. But reaching people—up against what the powers-that-be don't want people to know—will take a concerted effort, and it will take funds. 

In this high-stakes situation, there are also a lot of people working hard so that people don't hear about Bob Avakian. There are the fascists that are working to shut down all debate and dissent. There are the mainstream mouthpieces of this system desperate to keep the opposition to fascism within the narrowest terms of the very system that gave rise to this fascism. And there are those within the social movements who have carved out a niche for themselves as a critic of this system who feel that position would be challenged by breaking open a serious debate over real revolution vs. reform, so instead promote a lot of unthinking slander about BA (BA spoke to this directly here).

Your contribution will help break through all that—cracking the blind and unthinking anti-communist dismissal that gives rise to hopelessness and low dreams. 

Right now, as we unite to defeat fascism, we need to open up and foster this much bigger debate, shedding the cynicism and raising people's sights: acting in the interests of the people of the world, being inspired by and coming to fight for a real way out of the madness.
