Revcoms Speak to the Controversy Over Bob Avakian's Message to Black People Hating on Immigrants
On Sunday, September 8, THE REVCOM CORPS For The Emancipation Of Humanity held a program at their organizing center on Bob Avakian’s (BA’s) social media message, “Black People Hating On Immigrants. Nonsense, and worse, from people who should know better.” This program had been the subject of attacks in the days leading up to it, and building for it was extremely controversial everywhere the revcoms went. The title of BA’s message struck a raw nerve—compelling some into angry denial but inspiring others to get into some truth-telling and debating.
@dix_carl setting the record straight on why @bobavakianofficial is challenging Black people who are hating on immigrants to get up off it.
Over 20 organized Black MAGA forces came to the event. Fascists had been attacking the program in the lead-up, denouncing it at a City Council meeting and issuing violent, disgusting threats on social media. Once the program began, these fascists refused to obey the rules that had been laid down—rules which would allow for everyone to speak and express differences, in a spirit of seeking the truth. Instead, the fascists insisted on disrupting. When they began to move toward the stage and physically confront people, the revcoms united those there who wanted to hear the program to make their will known, and these fascists felt compelled to leave.
Chicago REVCOM CORPS for the Emancipation of Humanity takes “Black People Hating On Immigrants. Nonsense, and worse, from people who should know better” to the projects fake news targetted.
So, after a very brief delay caused by this attack, the program resumed with the remaining 30 to 40 people who were there. People listened attentively to the audio of BA reading the message, as well as brief talks from the revcoms who were leading the program. There was good discussion and struggle—lively exposure, truth-telling, some expressions of opposition and difference, and wrangling from different angles with what we need to do to overcome the serious problem that BA points to in this message.
Obviously, we need many, many more people to be engaging and wrangling with the crucial points made by BA in this message. But this beginning struck a nerve, and it can and must be built on.
