On April 12, over 1,000 people rallied and marched in San Francisco to "Fight Fascism!" The rally was organized by community activists Alex U. Inn and Juanita More through their annual People's March for Democracy (which is typically held in June around Pride). Other groups such as the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Indivisible, 50501, and Refuse Fascism mobilized significant contingents that added to the diversity of the day. In addition to Alex and Juanita, speakers included former San Francisco mayoral candidate Aaron Peskin, co-founder of SF Transgender Cultural District Honey Mahogany, and California state senator Scott Wiener. Overall, this was a significant expression of opposition to Trump fascism on the part of San Francisco's LGBTQ community.

People who attended the rally and march were very diverse politically, with many signs from last week's "Hands Off!" protests and a significant number of pro-Palestinian signs. About 50 people actively joined the Refuse Fascism contingent this weekend, with banners, flyers, picket signs, and an exciting bullhorn team. The local chapter has been able to plant an initial pole of attraction around hitting the nail on the head that this is fascism, insisting on mass sustained nonviolent protest, and popularizing the demand that the Trump fascist regime must go! Additionally, the slogan "In The Name Of Humanity, We Refuse to Accept A Fascist America!" received prominent coverage on April 5 and into this week in the SF Chronicle. Many have seen a video of David, a leader with the Revcom Corps for the Emancipation of Humanity in the Bay Area and an organizer with Refuse Fascism, leading hundreds to make this pledge. Dozens of people signed up to join Refuse Fascism and to learn more about the mission.

David's arrest after the April 5 "Hands Off!" protest has struck a chord with many decent people who have reached out to express their support and willingness to step in to defend him. Much of this unity is on the basis of fighting fascism, at the same time there is serious interest in the leadership that Bob Avakian is providing to revcoms like David. Almost two dozen people approached him at this protest and were introduced to the new pamphlet from the Bob Avakian Institute, Trump/MAGA Fascism: What We’re Really Facing, Why, and What Must Be Done to Defeat It Before It’s Too Late. Several hundred copies of Bob Avakian's social media message Revolution #114 saturated the crowd, with almost $200 raised for the campaign to promote @BobAvakianOfficial social media.
This is an important new section of people who are seeing this as fascism (to varying degrees) and beginning to see the need of sustained mass protest demanding the Trump regime go (with much complexity). And it can be an important strength leading into the April 19 national mobilizations.
