Voices from May 1st Protests: Due Process Under Attack! Defend Immigrants! Trump Must Go Now!
This year, May 1, May Day demonstrations and other events took place in over 1,000 cities and towns, overwhelmingly opposed to the policies of the Trump fascist regime. They turned out in cities like Chicago, LA and New York—where thousands came out around a variety of issues. And in places like Jackson, Mississippi where 150 showed up to oppose the regime.
May 1 is also National Law Day, and thousands of lawyers and judges took the streets in lunchtime rallies to "Stand for the Rule of Law." These were organized by local legal organizations, and chapters of the American Bar Association. Lawyers raised their right hands, and retook their oaths to "defend the Constitution." In NY, where 1,500 people took part in what the New York Times called a "raucous" protest, David Patton, a former public defender who now works at a major law firm, ended his speech with this challenge: "I have a question for every lawyer here, and there is not a multiple-choice answer. You must answer yes. If someone comes to you, needs your advocacy, will you speak up, will you say what needs to be said?" A resounding YES rose from the crowd. He asked the question two more times, the YES got louder and louder.

Chicago
Refuse Fascism turned out strong in Houston, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Francisco. The single unifying demand of “The Trump Fascist Regime Must Go NOW” struck a deep chord with rally goers, resounding in chants—especially at points when banners with the slogan were boldly displayed.
Of particular potential importance, members of THE REVCOM CORPS For The Emancipation Of Humanity joined with others to mass distribute thousands of copies of the pamphlet of works from Bob Avakian, Trump/MAGA FASCISM: What We’re Really Facing, Why and What Must Be Done to Defeat It Before It’s Too Late.
The important thing now is to go out boldly, while learning as much as we can from this experience, bringing forward even more powerfully that single, unifying slogan: The Trump Fascist Regime Must Go NOW! Building up, as rapidly as we can, the kind of nonviolent but determined, sustained and growing mass movement that could actually remove this fascist regime from power—before it is too late.
