Seeds and Shoots of Revolution—Fundraising for the Revcoms on International May 1 at Revolution Books NYC
On May 1, Revolution Books (RB) in New York City hosted an Internationalist Revolutionary Celebration. A group of older, retired Black people who come out of the 1960s struggles of Black folk in the U.S. came together to take responsibility for an inspiring fundraiser for May 1. In different ways, they all are looking to and want to see a revolution happen here. They are RB supporters who have been especially active around various fundraising projects over the past several years, especially cooking food, for RB and the movement for revolution.
From a retired teachers’ aide
After watching Andy Zee’s May 1st editorial on The RNL Show, I wanted to contribute to a brighter future... Now for the $25,000 challenge, I got some more shirts that say Forced Motherhood is Female Enslavement to raise funds. I was helping a friend with his yard sale, so I brought the shirts there... I’d like to challenge everyone to grab some of these important conversation-starting shirts to raise funds and to spread the word...

Cleveland: Spreading the message of May 1 among people hoping for a better world but not knowing their hopes really can become reality!
A few supporters of the revcoms in Cleveland raised $360 for the May 1st fund drive yesterday selling cake slices, brownies, and cookies at small businesses in strip malls.... We had been to many of the same shops before and many remembered learning about the RNL Show. They were glad to see us again and glad to be reminded to watch the RNL Show. Those who had asked us to leave flyers for the $100,000 drive were all out and wanted May 1st flyers.

Working on challenging and organizing people—fundraising plan from a Midwest city
Since the call to raise $25,000 for May 1st was issued, I've done a lot of calling to people who see themselves as supporters of the revcoms digging into why raising funds this month will make a huge difference to making the May 1st events impact millions with the message that a force is gathering for real revolution. Both the May 1st editorial and the fundraising flyer are great in walking people through this—especially the point in the flyer which says: “Your funds will enable these demonstrations to happen—and more than that, they will be part of making this force and the alternative it represents known to millions.” There has been a lot of struggle involved in most of these conversations—it's definitely not where people go on autopilot.

Making the substance of the May 1st editorial the common property and foundation for building for the holiday
In developing our plans for May 1st, we started with a discussion of the May 1st editorial, and plans to make the substance of it the common property of, and foundation for, all those who will be building for it—supporters as well as new people we meet. All of this is taking place in the midst of sharpening contradictions, and we talked about the need to lead with May 1st (its politics and goals) in acting on them—whether it be the intensifying crisis at the border or the accelerating war on women with the Mifepristone ban, just to name a couple. Not only is a better world possible, there is a force, the revcoms, preparing to seize on this rare time, and organizing now to make revolution—people need to be challenged to join with that to put revolution on the map.

A $1,000 match challenge from four retirees from Hawai`i:
“We’ve dreamed of revolution for decades and now, when we see the possibilities unfolding, health and distance limits what we can do. However, the courageous young revolutionary leaders we see on the RNL show give us hope. We challenge you to join us in raising $25,000 to expand their work and put revolution on the map.”
