While the Trump regime is waging a massively criminal war on Iran and on a global rampage, they are also steamrolling ahead to rig future elections and to crush all dissent and protest.  All as part of consolidating their larger fascist program.

Trump/MAGA fascism is running into some real obstacles.  But this is not causing them to back off, but to double down—moving to silence and suppress those who expose and protest the illegitimacy and criminality of this Trump fascism.

Last September, Bob Avakian, the revolutionary leader and architect of the new communism, said in his social media post REVOLUTION #133: 

If this fascist regime is allowed to remain in power, everything that decent people have felt they could rely on to seek justice will be brutally shut down...every uplifting moral value will be reviled and repressed...every sphere of society will be remade, in terrible ways, in line with the male supremacist, anti-LGBT, white supremacist and anti-immigrant cruelty and the anti-scientific, health and climate destroying madness of the Trump fascist regime and the bloodthirsty ravings and depraved violence of fanatics heading “the department of war,” with the deranged maniac Trump having his finger on the nuclear button.

Every vision, and every active striving, for a better, more just world, for a future worth living in, will be violently suppressed and effectively foreclosed, at least for the foreseeable future.

This is not hyperbole—it is the bitter reality that is being rapidly enforced.

To those who think this regime will just fall on its own... or think that Trump is an unpopular and miserably failing clown, that there's no way fascism can be consolidated, wake up and read the following:

ONE: Moving to Disenfranchise Millions of Voters and Justify Stealing Elections

Trump and Republi-fascists spent last week pushing hard for Senate passage of the so-called Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act. “NO MORE RIGGED ELECTIONS” screamed Trump on Truth Social. And he said that SAVE is “one of the most IMPORTANT & CONSEQUENTIAL pieces of legislation in the history of Congress, and America itself.” 

At the heart of SAVE is the racist myth that millions of noncitizens are voting as part of a Democratic conspiracy to steal elections from the “real” Americans—white, native born, heterosexual—and hand the country over to immigrants, transgender people, and other targets of the fascist MAGA movement. To “Save America” from all these “lesser” people, the Act would make it a federal law that people must show proof of citizenship—either a birth certificate or a passport—in order to register, and then bring a current photo ID that 100 percent matches those documents when they actually vote. 

Roughly146 million Americans don’t have a passport. About 21 million do not have ready access to their birth certificates. And 69 million women who changed their names upon marriage (as well as thousands of trans people who have changed their gender) now have photo ID with a name that does not match their birth certificates. So in reality, SAVE is a massive effort to disenfranchise (deprive of voting rights) as well as to demonize millions of people.

If SAVE passes, it will greatly assist in securing a fascist election victory. But even if it fails and the fascists lose the election, SAVE will play a key role in Trump’s strategy to hold onto power. Because, along with promoting this bill, Trump has been actively agitating for the Republicans to “take control” of the elections. He already gave a sense of what this would mean nationwide when he unleashed the FBI to seize ballots in Atlanta, (which is majority anti-Trump).  Trump could use SAVE’s defeat as “proof” that the election was “rigged” and as justification either to cancel it ahead of time, or to seize the ballots and take control of counting them.

TWO: Clamping Down on Media Criticism of the Iran War

On March 14, Brendan Carr, the head of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), posted on X that broadcasters “that are running hoaxes and news distortions—also known as the fake news—have a chance now to correct course before their license renewals come up. The law is clear. Broadcasters must operate in the public interest, and they will lose their licenses if they do not.” This came right on the heels of Trump railing against “unfavorable” press coverage of the war on Iran, with Trump posting that Iran is “working in close coordination with the Fake News Media.” Trump said that the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, “and other Lowlife ‘Papers’ and Media actually want us to lose the War…” and that some “should be brought up on Charges for TREASON.”  Treason is a crime that can be punishable by death!

After Carr made his threats, Trump praised him, saying he was “thrilled” that the FCC is “looking at the licenses of some of these Corrupt and Highly Unpatriotic ‘News’ Organizations.”

In fact, as in all previous imperialist wars, the U.S. media has disgustingly supported the U.S. war effort and troops.  They largely gloss over the enormous suffering and destruction raining down on Iranian people, while at the same time work to get people to view this from the perspective of what it will mean for American lives.  They focus attention on gas prices, questioning whether—from the standpoint of U.S. imperialist interests—the war should have been launched, and criticizing the way Trump is conducting it. 

But anything less than fully parroting Trump's lies without question is too much for Trump and his fascist regime. They demand—and are actively enforcing—uncritical support of the war. 

THREE: FBI Agents “Visit” Past and Current Members of Extinction Rebellion

Over the past year, and continuing into this month, FBI agents—some with links to the Bureau’s Joint Terrorism Task Force—have been “visiting” activists in and around Extinction Rebellion, attempting to question them about the group. (It seems that most or all of the activists correctly refused to talk to the agents). 

Extinction Rebellion engages in political protest aimed at sounding the alarm about the climate crisis.  They describe themselves as a “… politically non-partisan movement using non-violent direct action and civil disobedience to persuade governments to act justly” on the climate emergency.  In no way is this a "terrorist" group.  But under Trump/MAGA fascism, it is falling into the ever-widening net of activists targeted for “investigation” under Trump’s October 2025 National Security Presidential Memo (NSPM-7, “Countering Domestic Terrorism and Organized Political Violence”), which identified things like “anti-Americanism, anti-capitalism and anti-Christianity” as fuel for “terrorism.” 

The purpose of these “visits” is to gather information to be used against other activists, and to intimidate activists broadly. Extinction Rebellion members talked frankly about the shiver of fear this has caused in their circles. There is the financial threat of having to spend huge amounts of money on legal defense including attorneys even though the activists have broken no federal law. One guy said: “They could ruin my life.” And people also raised the greater menace since federal agents murdered Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis this January: an organizer said “We don’t know what these people are capable of.” But it’s important to note that people have not been broken by this. The organizer says that they shared news of the FBI visits with hundreds of supporters via Signal. “We were expecting, like, a mass exodus in the chat. Instead it was like, ‘green hearts,’ ‘Keep on!’”

FOUR: FBI and IRS Team Up to “Investigate” Non-Profit Organizations for Links to “Terrorism.”

On March 18, CBS News reported, that “FBI and IRS agents are forming a new initiative to investigate nonprofit organizations over suspected possible links to domestic terrorism.” There are close to two million registered non-profits in the U.S., woven into the fabric of society, including many that are supportive—politically or in humanitarian ways—of oppressed people, critics of the government, defenders of human and legal rights. Which will be investigated? CBS says “It is not yet clear which groups will be targeted for investigation, though [Attorney General] Bondi's memo instructed all federal law enforcement agencies to scour their files for intelligence on antifa groups and forward it to the FBI." And the FBI has been told to compile “a list of groups that are engaged in acts that ‘may constitute domestic terrorism.’”

Again, this regime defines "terrorist" as anyone politically opposed to fascism.  They called both Alex Pretti and Renee Good “domestic terrorists” after they were murdered by federal agents for peacefully protesting against ICE gestapo thugs. Executive orders and memos issued by Trump and Pam Bondi (as Attorney General she is head of the Department of Justice and the FBI) identified such things as “extreme viewpoints on immigration, radical gender ideology, and anti-American sentiment” as “fuel” for terrorism.

There can be no standing aside from this fascist juggernaut.  A key part of this is uniting all who can be united to defeat these repressive moves—having the backs of anyone under attack. In a recent major presentation, Humanity on the Brink: A Forced March Into the Abyss,  or Forging a Way Forward Out of the Madness?, Avakian laid out a critical approach to this life-and-death fight:

...there is the importance of confronting and moving to not only oppose but actually defeat the severe repression the Trump regime is threatening, and is moving rapidly to enforce—for example, with its targeting of so-called “antifa” as a dragnet and broad framework in which to go after anybody who is (as they say) “anti-capitalist,” “anti-Christian,” “anti-American,” taking supposedly “extreme positions” against deporting immigrants, and so on and so forth. It is only realistic and scientific to expect this repression to take leaps, and very likely in the near future. So it is necessary to be prepared, actively as well as ideologically in terms of orientation, to meet and defeat this repression, broadly mobilizing people in opposition to it, including people who have political disagreements with those targeted at any given time.

And through this fight, it is necessary to win more people, building up more organized forces, for the fight against Trump/MAGA fascism, in terms of the immediate situation, and for the fundamental goal of revolution—giving life to what we describe as the R/CR/More R phenomenon (that is, revolution and resistance against the system, met by the counter-revolution of the repression of the regime, and met in turn by calling forth more powerful resistance and building for revolution). This is going to be an extremely acute focus and front of the struggle against the Trump regime and for the possibility of something even more fundamental to change. So it is necessary, as I said, to be prepared both ideologically and practically, and to make this a mass question, and give life to the orientation of uniting all who can be united against this repression, regardless of even significant differences among those so united—but, at the same time, not allowing this, even as serious as it is likely to become, to cause people to panic and to backtrack on struggling against the regime and for more fundamental change.
