The possibility of a new, and potentially even more murderous U.S.-Israeli attack, is looming over Iran, the Middle East and the world.

It’s being widely reported that the Pentagon has been asked by Trump to draw up options for a major military attack on Iran. The U.S., working with Israel—where the fascist head of the "Department of War" Pete Hegseth recently visited—have drawn up joint plans for an attack after the midterm elections. This past week Trump was briefed on these plans which reportedly envision an intense bombing campaign aimed at Iran’s military, energy facilities, civilian infrastructure, nuclear sites, and other targets. 

The U.S. military has been making preparations for such an attack for weeks. In addition to deploying the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt and its supporting strike group, some 10,000 additional soldiers, and another Marine unit have been sent to the region. The U.S. has also deployed additional munitions, supplies, air defenses, fighter jets, and other assets, and it has withdrawn U.S. personnel from diplomatic and military sites in the region.

The Trump regime has reportedly warned its Arab Gulf allies to prepare for “a short, intense campaign after the midterm elections." 

“Their Plan Is Insane”

Senator Chris Murphy, a Democrat from Connecticut, attended a classified briefing on U.S. war plans. He emerged clearly shaken and extremely worried:

“I will just say this: their plan is insane. It will lead to devastating escalation and the likely destruction of our commitment to the rule of law…There’s been open reporting as to what we may be planning and the civilian infrastructure we may be targeting…The plan that they have developed will lead, in my view, to a prolongment and escalation of this war that will be devastating for our security interests.”

It's important that Murphy is sounding the alarm about the danger of the U.S. committing massive war crimes. But we should be clear that when he talks about "our security interests," he is talking about the "security interests" of the U.S. empire which is dripping with the blood of the people of the world. The real interests of the people of the world lie in abolishing the system that the U.S. has waged countless wars, coups, invasions and more to defend.

In the face of these ongoing threats, "Iran’s supreme leader has instructed senior army commanders to deliver an 'immediate, effective response without geographical limitations' to any potential enemy threat, Iranian state media reported." Iran is saying they would go on the offense against U.S. bases and its Gulf allies, including data centers, communication infrastructures and other critical targets. 

The U.S. has recently circulated reports that Iran is planning to target Americans in the Middle East. But no matter what pretext the U.S. and Israel come up with, any war they launch will be totally unjust and utterly illegal. And very possibly will be more horrific—designed to murder, cripple and starve Iranian citizens even more than the previous rounds, which were themselves war crimes.¹
