Trump claims there’s a “ceasefire” in Gaza, but Israel is still bombing, shooting, and murdering Palestinians! Now, in the face of ongoing hunger, disease, and injuries, it’s expelling doctors. This means even more people—especially children—will die!

On January 1—the first day of a new year under Trump’s so-called “ceasefire”—Israel announced it was suspending the authorization for 37 international aid organizations to operate in Gaza, and told them they would have to clear out entirely by March. This includes the world-renowned Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières—MSF).

This is not just an outrage, it’s a genocidal outrage!

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has waged war on Gaza’s civilian health infrastructure. Aid groups call it "de-healthification" or "medicide." The Israeli military has “bombed hospitals, killed medical personnel, obstructed humanitarian convoys, and decimated critical infrastructure,” collapsing nearly every pillar of Gaza’s healthcare system. Over 1,400 healthcare workers have been killed and dozens more detained and often tortured while in Israeli custody.

Now they’re shutting down some of the few remaining healthcare options Gazans have. This, when Gaza is facing a deepening public health catastrophe, including widespread outbreaks of infectious diseases such as polio, hepatitis A, acute diarrhea, and various skin infections.¹

Doctors Without Borders writes, “If Israeli authorities revoke MSF’s access to Gaza in 2026, a large portion of people in Gaza will lose access to critical medical care, water, and lifesaving support. MSF’s activities serve nearly half a million people in Gaza through our vital support to the destroyed health system.”

MSF supports around 20 percent of all hospital beds in Gaza and the delivery of one in three babies. Yet it is being expelled from Gaza when the UN reports that “Gaza’s health system for mothers and newborns has been ‘decimated,’ with Israeli attacks destroying almost all hospitals, cutting off medical supplies and driving sharp rises in maternal deaths, miscarriages and newborn fatalities amid mass displacement and hunger.”

One Palestinian said, “Even with the presence of humanitarian organizations, the situation is already tragic. If their support and presence are removed, God knows what will happen. Many children will die, lives will be destroyed, and many families will be devastated by this decision.” 

This is not just a healthcare disaster. Aid organizations and foreign medical volunteers have been a crucial source of information to the rest of the world about what’s actually happening in Gaza. Why? Because Israel has systematically murdered journalists in Gaza—more than 260 as of December 1. It has also blocked all foreign media from reporting independently from Gaza—a ban it is aiming to continue under the so-called “ceasefire.” 

More Lies and Bogus Justifications 

Israel justifies this with the bogus claim (without evidence) that Hamas and other militant groups have infiltrated and corrupted the organizations that are refusing to turn over a registry of all their employees to Israel.

These international aid organizations and NGOs have every right to refuse to out their employees, who are “routinely subject to harassment, detention and direct attacks.” 

Over 400 aid workers, including hundreds from the UN, and more than 1,400 health workers, have been killed in Gaza since October 2023, making it the deadliest place for humanitarian staff globally, some estimating between 500-580 have been killed by late 2025. 

The Trump regime is all for it. U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, a stone Christian fascist, is backing Israel’s genocidal starvation, writing approvingly on social media about the restrictions on Tuesday, accusing some without any evidence of having “terrorists on their payroll.”

Israel Continues to Maim and Kill

Barely a day goes by when Israel doesn’t kill civilians, including children. On Tuesday, January 6, Israeli airstrikes killed a five-year-old girl and her uncle near Khan Younis, and Israeli forces shot another child in the head in northern Gaza. The next day Israel bombed a home near Gaza City and killed three people. On Thursday, the Israelis killed an 11-year-old Palestinian girl, and shot another child in a different attack. On Friday, January 9, Israeli forces killed at least 14 Palestinians in attacks across Gaza. 

“They say there’s peace and a truce,” one Palestinian survivor said. “But there’s neither peace nor truce.”

Since Trump’s “ceasefire” began last October 11, Israel has killed more than 439 Palestinians and wounded 1,223. This pushes the total officially recorded death toll in Gaza since October 7, 2023 to 71,409 killed and 171,304 injured (this does not include the thousands still buried under the rubble).

These moves are parts of an ongoing, overall Israeli genocide in Gaza taking place in the context of Trump’s ceasefire and “peace plan.” This is a “peace plan,” as revcom.us has analyzed, that has nothing to do with ensuring the rights and survival of the Palestinian people, and everything to do with forging deeper U.S. ties to various reactionary regimes in the region, and overall solidifying total U.S. domination of the Middle East.

All this makes strengthening Israel all the more central to Trump’s fascist, imperialist plans. As the revolutionary leader Bob Avakian said in his social media message REVOLUTION #35: Ending Apartheid as Part of Ending All Oppression—South Africa is Not a “Model.”:

Maintaining Israel as a “western-oriented” state is of decisive importance for the U.S. imperialists, and in turn the Zionist (Jewish supremacist) nature of Israel is of critical importance in maintaining Israel as this bastion of support for U.S. dominance, especially in opposition to the influence of Iran—and beyond that Russia, and increasingly China—in this strategic region.

This is why, during his recent meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (aka Netan-Nazi), Trump declared that Israel was adhering “100 percent” to the ceasefire, even as it continues its genocide, albeit in a more gradual fashion (at least for now). And why Trump declared. “I’m not concerned about anything that Israel is doing.”²
