REVOLUTION #67: A Chamber Full of Monsters Cheers on a Genocidal Maniac.
On July 24, at the invitation of leaders of both the MAGA fascist Republican Party and Genocide Joe Biden’s (and Kamala Harris’s) Democratic Party, Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu AKA Netan-nazi spoke to Congress. Later he met with Biden and Harris. (See revolutionary leader Bob Avakian’s response to the speech.)
The day before Netanyahu’s speech, hundreds of American Jews occupied the rotunda of the Cannon House Office Building on Capitol Hill in civil disobedience, demanding an immediate arms embargo on Israel. Their huge banner read “NO ONE IS FREE UNTIL EVERYONE IS FREE.” Many wore handmade prayer shawls with the words “NEVER AGAIN FOR ANYONE.” Hundreds were arrested.
On the 24th, thousands rallied near the White House. The rally was organized or endorsed by a wide-ranging coalition of hundreds of organizations, and people came from as far as California, Michigan, and North Carolina. There were contingents of feminists for Palestine, Doctors Against Genocide, and unions, including the United Auto Workers and the Screen Actors Guild (actor Susan Sarandon spoke at the rally). Students from campuses around the country who had been subjected to police assaults on their encampments came. Many wore red, to symbolize drawing a “red line” against genocide around the White House.
After the rally, thousands, including the revcoms, set off on a defiant and determined march. Police repeatedly attacked the march, including throwing bikes at people and random, unprovoked pepper spraying that left several marchers dangerously debilitated in intense Washington, DC heat.
Near the end of the march, a large crowd of protesters burned an effigy of Netanyahu and an American flag near the Capitol and DC’s Union Station.
As night fell, a giant “WANTED: ARREST WAR CRIMINAL NETANYAHU” sign was projected on the Watergate Hotel, where Netan-nazi was staying.
