On the occasion of Revolutionary May Day 2024

From the ugliness of oppression, death and misery that surrounds us today, the beauty of a radically new and liberatory society can emerge. We are fighting today, you must fight, many more people need to fight for a real revolution and that possible future, if we do not want to live the increasingly horrible future that this system is taking us to.

The old world order is going into crisis, causing immense unnecessary suffering but also opening up new opportunities for a real revolution. The genocide of the Palestinian people, the barbarity of femicides and the trafficking of women and children around the world, the heartbreaking famines in Africa and many more horrors are a product of the current world system of capitalism-imperialism. But this system also carries within it the possibility of a radically different and much better society.

The environmental crisis is thrashing the entire world, already causing major disasters, as we see in Mexico with Hurricane Otis, the growing drought and the hundreds of recent uncontrolled fires. The threat is growing even of the extinction of human beings and many other species, due to the relentless operation of the capitalist system whose most fundamental law is the competition between big capitalists and imperialists for the greatest profits, destroying whatever and exploiting whomever in the process. And that includes Pemex [Mexico’s oil production monopoly], one of the ten most polluting companies in the world.

We must go to the root and go beyond the global resistance that already exists, to revolution, to overthrow the system that is digging the grave of humanity. Another system governed by the needs of humanity and the environment, and not by the profits of a few, is possible and urgently necessary. We need a revolutionary socialist system which will make possible many things that today seem like dreams. The use of oil and other sources of global warming will be stopped as soon as possible. The mobilization of the revolutionary people will revive the forests that regulate the climate and capture water, clean the rivers and much more. And by confiscating the property of the imperialists and big capitalists and putting it at the service of the people, we will be able to build together a socialist economy with jobs, housing, health services, entertainment, and a diverse and inspiring culture in line with the life that every human being deserves.

The absolute barbarity of the current system is now highlighted in the genocide of the Palestinian people at the hands of Israel and U.S. imperialism. This is occurring in the context of the growing confrontation between the U.S., Russian and Chinese imperialists in which each seeks to expand their reactionary empire at the expense of the others. This takes us towards the precipice of a nuclear world war that would be the end of life as we know it on this planet. The genocide in Palestine has raised awareness, denunciations and struggles throughout the world. The Israeli state tries to justify these massacres because of the terrible Nazi genocide against the Jews. But thousands of brave Jews around the world are denouncing this, pointing out that the lesson of the Nazi Holocaust is never again genocide against anyone. To make this real, it is necessary to put an end to the system that engenders genocides, massacres, and reactionary wars. Revolution is needed in Palestine and throughout the world.

Many capitalist governments in the world cry crocodile tears for the Palestinian people, but in Mexico President López Obrador [AMLO] has declared himself “neutral” about the situation in Gaza. “Neutral” on genocide! Completely unacceptable! Despite all its nationalist rhetoric, this government, like all previous ones, accepts the domination of Mexico by U.S. imperialism and does not dare to question it on such a delicate matter for the empire. It also does its dirty work by repressing, murdering and burning alive imprisoned migrants who desperately flee the violence and hunger caused by this system. And the Mexican army continues to use Israeli software to spy on and vilify journalists, activists and opponents.

This is the same army that participated directly in the operation in which six people were murdered and the 43 Ayotzinapa teacher training college students were disappeared and that now the army refuses to hand over the evidence that documents their crimes against humanity. The army is part of the capitalist state that is increasingly colluding with organized crime, which has resulted in more brutal murders in each six-year presidential term and more than one hundred thousand disappearances. More than a third were disappeared in this six-year term, and the only “solution” they find is to try to disappear the disappeared from the official record!

They speak hypocritically of indigenous peoples while stealing their lands, repressing and destroying their communities and cultures in the name of the phony capitalist “progress” of the so-called Train “Maya”, the destructive transoceanic corridor and devastating mining. Now in their bourgeois electoral fervor, they proclaim that these are “women’s times,” but it has already been shown that even with women in positions of the capitalist state, femicides, human trafficking, and harassment continue because the oppression of women is a fundamental part of the current system.

Because of all this, we are fighting to overthrow capitalism and establish revolutionary socialism, but we are not talking about the so-called “socialism” of Cuba or Venezuela or today’s China, which in reality are capitalist countries. Nor are we talking about simply repeating the best of the socialist revolutions of the past. We are talking about a new socialism guided by the new communism developed by Bob Avakian by learning from the great advances, but also from the important mistakes of previous socialist revolutions. A new society with new revolutionary laws that support and promote, instead of repressing, the fight to end all forms of exploitation and oppression, for the liberation of indigenous peoples, women, LGBTQ+ people, the people in general and the liberation of the country from imperialist domination, serving the struggle for the emancipation of all humanity. A society in which the scientific method is promoted instead of deception and lies; critical thinking, dissent and reasoned debate are encouraged rather than stifled and distorted; a true human community is fostered while defending it against attempts to reimpose capitalism with its incessant struggle of all against all.

This revolution becomes more possible due to the intensification of the crises of the system. Behind the apparent strength of the system, the acceleration of the environmental crisis and the harsh confrontations leading towards a world war, growing cracks are opening up in the world system through which the revolutionary potential of the masses could burst forth with explosive force, as long as we move forward now in forging the understanding, leadership and organization essential for that liberatory revolution.

In Mexico, the powers that be are facing increasing difficulties in governing in a unified manner. They can’t even hold elections without dozens of assassinations of potential candidates. The clash between the capitalist electoral parties (PRI-PAN-PRD, Morena and the others) is becoming increasingly sharp and dirty, and some and then others ally themselves with the cartels who in turn are waging a war to the death for control of the national territory and illicit international trafficking. Faced with governance crises, they have resorted to the largest militarization in history, but the same military forces are colluding with organized crime and the situation continues to explode, from Chiapas to Sinaloa, from “Mataulipas” [Tamaulipas] to “Guerracruz” [Veracruz].

Among those at the bottom, more and more people cannot continue living as before. Entire communities face the dilemma of subordinating themselves to drug trafficking, arming themselves in self-defense groups or fleeing, which has caused the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people. And the collection of fees, extortion, trafficking, and narcopolitics is spreading its tentacles everywhere, while the masses struggle to barely survive.

On the other hand, the ruling class in the United States, a “rock of stability” for the exploiting classes in Mexico, is on the brink of a possible civil war between the Republican Party, which seeks to impose fascism, and the Democratic Party, which seeks to maintain the traditional farce of bourgeois democracy. This is opening up possibilities for a revolution, yes, a revolution! in the belly of the beast, led by Bob Avakian and the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA.

All the crises and crimes that we have mentioned mean more horrors and suffering for the people, but they also open up new opportunities for the revolution. We are fighting now to be able to take advantage of these opportunities, but we need many more people to join the movement for revolution.
