We stand with the National Lawyers Guild Under Fascist Attack 

A statement from The Revcoms

On October 16, a Republican House member sent a letter to the fascist-run Department of Justice (DOJ) asking them to launch an investigation into the National Lawyers Guild (NLG) for its alleged "ties with left-wing extremists and domestic terrorist organizations like Antifa." 

In reality, "antifa” is not an “organization” but an orientation toward opposing fascists, racists and other forms of injustice. The Trump regime is using the label as justification for ramping up broad political repression. And to these fascists, "left-wing extremists" just means all the many millions of individuals and groups who are politically opposed to the regime. 

Across the country and over decades, the National Lawyers Guild has provided a vital service to social movements, providing legal observers, training law students and working with jailhouse lawyers to protect what are supposed to be people's rights to due process, and the First Amendment rights to speech and political protest. The calls for a DOJ investigation into the NLG is a political witchhunt aimed at crushing protest and dissent as part of locking into place an all-out fascist America.

In their powerful statement denouncing what they correctly call "Federal Intimidation of Legal Advocacy," the NLG sounded the alarm about the danger of this threat and bravely reaffirmed their "commitment to Law for the People and to supporting movements challenging fascism, white supremacy, imperialism, zionism and capitalist exploitation."

Everyone who cares about the future should stand up and speak out in defense of the National Lawyers Guild. We should do so as part of overcoming divide-and-conquer schemes and uniting all who can be united to drive this fascist regime from power.

We pledge our political support to the National Lawyers Guild, and anyone facing illegitimate and unjust political threats and intimidation from this fascist regime.

Revcom.us acts as a guiding and connecting hub for the revcom movement nationwide: showing what’s being done, digging into what’s right and what’s wrong, and rapidly learning—and recruiting new people into what has to be a rapidly growing force.
