The Democrats are approaching their upcoming national convention on August 19-22 riding a wave of enthusiasm that seemed unimaginable just weeks ago. Crowds of 12 to 15 thousand are lining up to hear Kamala Harris speak. Donations to her campaign are breaking all previous records. She's become a “cultural sensation” with viral social media memes and celebrity endorsements. Headlines and pundits celebrate that Harris is “bringing back joy” and radiating optimism.

All this is a far cry from the situation that held just weeks ago. Biden had self-destructed during a national debate. Trump had survived an assassination attempt only to be exalted as a near-god at the Republican National Convention. And a widespread sense of dread and defeat hung over the many people who fear the fascism of Trump but who still shrink from directly confronting that fascism and the system of capitalism-imperialism that spawned it, and instead rely on the Democrats to “do something.”

One thing to note is just how rapidly and dramatically things can change in these times!

But what is it, exactly, that the Democrats are whipping up so much enthusiasm for?

Opioid Fantasy Vs. Life-Saving Truth

Has Harris broken with Genocide Joe's cutthroat support for Israel as Israel intensifies its genocide in Gaza and assassinates rival leaders on foreign soil with the risk of provoking a wider war?

No! Cold-blooded Kamala has been a core part of the Biden administration which has armed and backed Israel to the hilt throughout this bloody genocide. Cold-blooded Kamala recently met with Netan-Nazi personally and then went on to repeat her undying support for Israel and slap down righteous pro-Palestinian protesters. She even promoted that genocidal lie that Israel “made the desert bloom,” erasing the truth that Palestinians had been living and farming there for many generations before Jewish Europeans colonized it in the service of British imperialism.

For all the excitement about her as a Black/Asian woman, has Kamala called out this country's institutionalized white supremacy and vowed to dismantle the genocidal regime of mass incarceration that Joe Biden helped build and that Trump would take to even more horrific levels?

No! She is bragging up her record as a prosecutor where she was a shameless mass incarcerator, as Rafael Kadaris exposed on The RNL—Revolution, Nothing Less!—Show! If you watch that clip, you will see Harris's much-celebrated and supposedly joyful laugh unleashed in her twisted glee over the fact that parents were terrified that she would personally imprison them if their kids skipped school. It is no exaggeration to say that Harris climbed to the position she's in on the broken bodies and disfigured lives of hundreds of thousands of Black and Latino Californians who've been put through the mill of mass incarceration. 

And what about her claim that her record as prosecutor makes her uniquely qualified to prosecute the case against Donald Trump? Is she calling out his FASCISM—his open white supremacy, his hatred of women, his promise of retribution and revenge, his disgusting America First-ism? Is she preparing the masses of people to wage the kind of massive resistance and struggle that would be required to stop Trump from implementing his fascist program if he wins, or to prevent him from violently stealing the election if he loses?

No! She is calling him “weird,” as if he is some kind of oddball that can be made fun of and dismissed. But Trump, his fascist-dominated Supreme Court that has granted him the powers of a king, and his armed-to-the-teeth MAGA fascist movement are not “weird.” They are completely consistent with the actual nature and history of this country which was founded on slavery, genocide, patriarchal oppression and global conquest. And Trump and his MAGA movement are on track to take all this to even more horrific and shocking levels. Calling this “weird” is doing nothing to slow this fascist advance, but is downplaying the threat and lulling masses of people to sleep. This is doing significant harm. This is political fentanyl for the “decent people,” and way too many are all too eager to shoot it right into their veins.

In short, the Democrats are whipping up enthusiasm for putting the joy in genocide, offering up oppression with optimism and furnishing feel-good denial of fascism. All this, and the upcoming Democratic National Convention (DNC), is nothing to celebrate! Rather, it is something to call out and oppose! And the occasion of the DNC, when the eyes of millions will be focused on Chicago, should be seized to put before all of society the only real and liberating alternative: the liberating revolution Bob Avakian is fighting for to bring down the whole system of capitalism-imperialism and bring into being a new revolutionary socialist society on the road to real emancipation.

Facing the Truth to Transform Reality

In his social media message Revolution #71, Bob Avakian makes clear:

Kamala Harris is not part of any real solution—she is a big part of the problem.

And what is the problem? 

It's this system—this system of capitalism-imperialism—which Harris serves. Which all these politicians have to serve if they want to get in office and stay in office, especially any “high office” like President.

It's this system that is the fundamental cause of all the hell that people are put through, not just in this country but all over the world.

It's this system that needs to be swept away—overthrown through an actual revolution—and replaced by a much better system.

In this time of profound and rapidly accelerating change, it is urgent that this revolution be put before millions—and that this revolution be put right up against all the ugly oppressive bullshit being propagated by not just the fascist Republicans but also the Democrats. The most important way to do this is by joining with the campaign to boldly and broadly project the voice and leadership of Bob Avakian, the revolutionary leader and architect of the new communism who is actively providing leadership for how to carry this revolution forward in his social media messages at @BobAvakianOfficial.
