October 7 marks one year since Hamas’s raid on Israel, which killed 1,200 people, a majority of them civilians. Israel responded with a horrific one-sided genocidal slaughter against the Palestinian people in Gaza, armed and backed by the imperialist United States. This genocide continues. Now, in addition, Israel has escalated this into a wider regional war with a crippling surprise attack against Hezbollah, a reactionary Islamic fundamentalist group in Lebanon. Israel then invaded Lebanon. They've killed over 1,400 people in just the last week in Lebanon. Millions have been displaced throughout the region. 

Iran, which is also a reactionary state, backs Hezbollah. It retaliated for this onslaught against its ally with a missile attack on Israel. Now Israel is preparing its own military response against Iran, “in consultation with” the United States. Israel has killed over 40,000 people in Gaza. All this has been supported by the U.S.

The principal analyst on the international situation for the New York Times has written that “Mr. Netanyahu [the Israeli leader] clearly has America’s blessing to retaliate.” Jake Sullivan, Biden’s “national security” adviser, said that “We have made clear that there will be consequences—severe consequences—for this attack, and we will work with Israel to make that the case.” There may be differences over tactics between the U.S. and Israel, but the U.S. has continued to coordinate with Israel, finance its murderous rampages, and back it up with thousands of U.S. troops in the region.

This is an extremely dangerous situation, not only for the people of the region but for the entire globe. In this situation, the following points of orientation are of utmost importance:

1. This Israeli-U.S. aggression is totally unjust, and the fundamental responsibility for any wider war lies with the United States. The U.S. imperialists have armed and backed Israel with massive amounts of military aid over the last 60 years and more, and Israel basically functions as an American outpost of domination in this strategic region of the world. This war—and any further offensive aggressive actions by either Israel and/or the U.S. must be opposed.
2. Bob Avakian, the revolutionary leader and author of the new communism, has recently said, “In arming and backing the actions of Israel, the U.S. government is not only enabling the genocidal slaughter of Palestinians but is also increasing the possibility of a war with Iran, and perhaps an even wider and more destructive war. At the same time, by massively providing weapons, as well as intelligence and strategic direction to Ukraine, the U.S. government, headed by the Biden/Harris administration, is already indirectly at war with Russia, while also making preparations for military confrontation with China—all of which could lead to world war, between nuclear-armed imperialist powers, with the possibility of wiping out human civilization as we know it.”
3. Israel is an illegitimate settler-colonial racist-apartheid state, imposed on the peoples of the region 76 years ago as an instrument of imperialist domination—and for the last 50-plus years particularly as a direct attack dog for U.S. imperialism, in the Middle East and throughout the world. The rulers of the U.S. don't stop repeating the lie that "Israel has a right to defend itself." And they paint aggressive genocidal actions by Israel as "self-defense." But, to again quote Bob Avakian, "The truth is that Israel... is an illegitimate state—and as such, it has no legitimate right to 'defend itself'—and its so-called ‘defense’ has repeatedly involved the deliberate killing of civilians, including large numbers of children."
4. The Islamic Republic of Iran is a repressive, reactionary, misogynist theocracy (religious dictatorship). This state has carried out murderous repression against its people and in particular against revolutionary forces and even those who express any dissent at all from its vicious policies. As such, this state—and all its similarly reactionary religious allies in the region, including Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis—must not be supported, and genuinely revolutionary and progressive forces within Iran must be supported. At the same time, it is the U.S. which is by far the world’s leading blood-soaked oppressive power atop a system of capitalism-imperialism, and this includes as a key element arming, funding, and relying on the reactionary state of Israel to be its attack dog in the Mideast. 
5. And within the U.S., our main responsibility to the people of the world is opposing—and fighting to stop—the crimes of our own rulers, whether the Republi-fascists or war-criminal Democrats.

We, the people of the world, can no longer afford to allow these imperialists to continue to dominate the world and determine the destiny of humanity. They need to be overthrown as quickly as possible. And it is a scientific fact that we do not have to live this way.
