[1] The decision by sitting President Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential race this late into the election year is unprecedented—a serious sign of “the increasing craziness, the intensifying situation” that Bob Avakian has said opens up the possibility of revolution. (from @BobAvakianOfficial Revolution #64)
Biden was on track to very likely lose the election against the fascist Donald Trump, causing powerful forces in the Democratic Party to pressure him to bow out of the race. Biden’s withdrawal comes just a week after the attempted assassination of Trump and three days after the fascist Republican National Convention shitshow where Trump was presented as if he were anointed by god in a grotesque spectacle of white supremacy, misogyny, and vicious xenophobia.
The two ruling class parties are at each other’s throats. They are fighting in a way that hasn't happened since before the Civil War of the 1860s. Things are not going back to “normal.”
Bob Avakian has analyzed in his social media messages Revolution #8 and #55:
The country as a whole is being torn apart by divisions that can no longer be covered over and things can no longer be held together in the way they have been for generations.
Everything will very likely be coming to a head and coming up for grabs this year, 2024, with the presidential election this year a sharp focus of the fight between the dominating ruling class parties—Democrats and Republicans—a fight that is very likely to break all out of the bounds of the “normal way” they exercise power over the people, and keep their whole murderous system going.
Biden’s withdrawal from running for a second term does not change this basic reality, and the repercussions of his withdrawal will enter into how this fight goes forward.
[2] There is no “better side” in this fight between the Democrats and the Republicans. The interests of the masses of people here and around the world lie not in choosing between these oppressors—but in making a real revolution, involving millions of people aiming to sweep away this whole system of capitalism-imperialism and replace its relations and institutions of exploitation and oppression, and its putrid culture, with ones that are liberating and uplifting.
Trump is a genocidal racist who is spearheading an outright fascist movement inside and outside the government that is hell-bent on reversing with a vengeance every partial concession to the struggle against oppression since the 1960s. Convinced that they have a divine right to rule, they are fighting for a Christian fascist form of undisguised capitalist dictatorship. They are willing to pervert or shatter the norms and institutions that have held this society together for generations and to unleash whatever violence is necessary to do this.
Genocide Joe Biden is a war criminal—from Gaza to the Iraq War he backed. Joe Biden is not a “noble servant” of the people. He’s been a bloodthirsty war criminal his entire political career. He called Black youth super-predators while promoting the 1994 Crime Bill that led to mass incarceration and massive police brutality. The Democratic Party, whoever they pick to run against Trump, is only concerned with and fighting to preserve and enforce this system of capitalism-imperialism. And no matter who runs it, its very nature compels it to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity all over the world, while carrying out horrible oppression within the U.S. Today, these atrocities include the Democratic Party’s hard-core support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza, record deportations, record drilling of oil that is destroying the planet, prosecuting a proxy war with Russia in Ukraine that risks spiraling into nuclear Armageddon, and more.
As Bob Avakian put it in his social media message #8:
This is not a time to be siding with one group of oppressors or another. This is a rare time—a very rare opening—a chance that may come only once in a lifetime—a chance to take advantage of the deep divisions among the ruling oppressors and go after their whole system, with the aim of bringing the whole thing down, and putting something much better in its place.
This rare time must not be squandered—wasted and thrown away. It must be actively and urgently seized on—to bring about a truly emancipating revolution.
[3] Everything depends on bringing forward a revolutionary people. The challenge to you to get with this revolution!
To seize on the unprecedented chance to make a real and liberating revolution which exists in this time, the organized forces for this revolution need to grow—and grow quickly—from small numbers to many hundreds, and then thousands. As Bob Avakian has repeatedly emphasized:
With thousands organized into the ranks of the revolution, millions can be won to revolution; and with millions won to revolution, there could be a real possibility for this revolution to win.
In Revolution #66, Bob Avakian speaks to the critical role you can play in this now:
[I]t would make a decisive difference—it could make all the difference—with regard to whether there is a real chance for revolution, if people step into this revolution, and help to further build the organized forces for this revolution, now and in an ongoing way. As I said [in message #61]:
This is the challenge... This is the possibility... This is a precious opportunity that must not be missed—a rare chance to make revolution—which must not be squandered (wasted, thrown away) but must be actively seized by everyone who hungers for a radically different and emancipating world.
