Heroism for Our Time. An Afternoon of Solidarity to Free Iran's Political Prisoners

Sun, January 9, 2022, 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM EST
(1:00 PM – 2:30 PM PST)

A brutal campaign of arrests, torture and executions is now taking place in Iran.  The numbers of political prisoners continue to grow amidst widespread, heroic protest. This is an emergency. The lives and dignity of hundreds of political prisoners are in imminent, mortal danger.  All those who stand for justice and yearn for a better world must rally to the cause of freeing Iran’s political prisoners NOW.

So please mark your calendars for January 9, 2022, and join us to discuss this urgent battle and its importance for the Iranian peoples’ future—and humanity’s.  Hear from relatives and former political prisoners about their loved ones and their inspiring heroism.  Learn about the International Emergency Campaign to Free Iran’s Political Prisoners—while also opposing U.S. aggression—and how you can be part of this high stakes battle.

 Featured Speakers:

Mariam Claren, daughter of German-Iranian dual citizen and political prisoner Nahid Taghavi held in Iran since October 2020. Mariam will speak about her mother’s case and its relationship to the struggle to free all of Iran’s political prisoners.

 • Lawdan Bazargan, former political prisoner, family member of victims of the 1988 massacre of Iran’s political prisoners, and human rights activist. A graduate of Cal State University Fullerton, she has written extensively on the 1988 massacre of Iran’s political prisoners, movements of mothers and family members who lost their children, and grief.

 • Larry Everest, a spokesperson for the IEC; author of Oil, Power and Empire: Iraq and the U.S. Global Agenda; journalist and contributor to revcom.us.

 • Dr. Azam Niroomand-Rad, emeritus professor, Georgetown University, Washington, DC; honorary faculty member of the Dept. of Medical Physics, University of Wisconsin at Madison.

There will be music, a Q&A and more.

Sponsors and participants from diverse political perspectives will join together for this event.  We urge you (individually or as an organization) to co-sponsor this exciting program, and help us reach people across the U.S. and internationally; to sign the Emergency Appeal: The Lives of Iran’s Political Prisoners Hang in the Balance—We Must ACT Now, and to donate to its further publication.1

In the words of world-renowned Argentine-Chilean-American novelist, playwright, and human rights activist Ariel Dorfman:

"If I have signed on to the Emergency Campaign to Free Political Prisoners in Iran, it is because I know that this initiative will effectively call attention to the situation of men and women in that country who, if enough pressure is brought to bear on its leaders, could—tomorrow be liberated from terrible conditions and extraordinary injustice…I am convinced—from personal experience—that the prisoners themselves are given strength to survive and persevere …They know others, faraway, care what happens to them, and we should not let them down.”

DONATE to the revolution.

From the genocide in Gaza, to the growing threat of world war between nuclear powers, to escalating environmental devastation… the capitalist-imperialist system ruling over us is a horror for billions around the world and is tearing up the fabric of life on earth. Now the all-out battle within the U.S. ruling class, between fascist Republicans and war criminal Democrats, is coming to a head—likely during, or before, the coming elections—ripping society apart unlike anything since the Civil War.

Bob Avakian (BA), revolutionary leader and author of the new communism, has developed a strategy to prepare for and make revolution. He’s scientifically analyzed that this is a rare time when an actual revolution has become more possible, and has laid out the sweeping vision, solid foundation and concrete blueprint for “what comes next,” in the Constitution for the New Socialist Republic in North America

The website revcom.us follows and applies that leadership and is essential to all this. We post new materials from BA and curate his whole body of work. We apply the science he’s developed to analyze and expose every key event in society, every week. Revcom.us posts BA’s timely leadership for the revcoms (revolutionary communists), including his social media posts which break this down for people every week and sometimes more. We act as a guiding and connecting hub for the growing revcom movement nationwide: not just showing what’s being done, but going into what’s right and what’s wrong and rapidly learning—and recruiting new people into what has to be a rapidly growing force.

Put it this way: there will be no revolution unless this website not only “keeps going” but goes up to a whole different level!

So what should you give to make 2024 our year—a year of revolution?
Everything you possibly can!

  • Promotion of BA on social media and the Bob Avakian Interviews on The RNL—Revolution, Nothing Less!—Show
  • Strengthen revcom.us as an accessible, secure, robust website able to rise to the challenge of meeting the extraordinary demands of navigating the storms and preparing for revolution in this pivotal, unprecedented year
  • Fund revcoms to travel to national “hotspots,” where extreme contradictions are pulling apart the fabric of this country and creating the possibility of wrenching an actual revolution out of this intensifying situation
  • Expand the reach and coverage of revcom.us
  • Printing and distribution of key Revcom materials including the Declaration and Proclamation
