At a Black college expo this past weekend, hundreds of Black and Latino college-bound youths encountered the National Revolution Tour and a challenge and invitation to fight for their future. Students took flyers showing the reality that as they plan their futures, the U.S. Supreme Court is about to rip away abortion rights now. This was a shock to the vast majority of students who had no idea the Court is weighing a case that could change the whole society this way and affect all of their lives.
Students said things like, “Women need to be able to have the choice—what if you’re not ready to have a baby?” or “what about women who get raped?” Throughout the day, they stopped to talk in groups or came up to the table. We exposed how they are being kept in the dark by the “leaders” of the women’s movement and Democratic Party who are giving up without a fight and they shouldn’t let anyone tell them to accept this, or that they have to wait until they can vote. Voting can’t do shit about this, but they can, by raising hell, like we did two years ago after the murder of George Floyd.
As an illustration of people they trust telling them to accept this, earlier in the day a handful of “woke” teachers tried to prevent their students from reading the flyers and hearing about this. They said they “talk about these issues in class” and the students weren’t here to talk to the revcoms, they were here for an event (that gives students more opportunities to get into college). They didn’t want to answer the question—or even have their students hear the question—what kind of future will these youth have when they can be forced against their will to be mothers and half of humanity is enslaved? Instead, the “woke” teachers called security, who snatched flyers out of the hands of young women and called over the police. The revcoms got on the mic after this so everyone could hear what is really at stake and some turned their heads to listen intently. Later some of those students grabbed flyers when they passed the table.
Many of the students who felt strongly women should not be forced to be mothers against their will could see it makes sense that we need to shake society up over this. They grabbed stacks of stickers to take back to their schools and get everywhere and some bought T-shirts that said “forced motherhood is female enslavement, abortion on demand and without apology.” Some, in groups from different schools, began talking to each other about how they would get to the march on March 8th and how to spread this. Some took copies of the Points of Attention for the Revolution to learn about the Revolution Club and signed up to learn more and work on this together. Some who signed up wrote down ways they would spread the word and raise hell, like reposting on social media, telling family and teachers, making announcements during lunch. Others scanned the QR code on the flyer to get organized and get connected, starting with a video from The RNL—Revolution, Nothing Less!—Show.
We told students to expect to get hit with all kinds of reasons why they shouldn’t be doing this, but not to let anyone make them accept what is happening. While we talked to one group, a woman came up to illustrate the point! She said it’s not true that motherhood is female enslavement, and told about how she regretted the abortion she had when she was younger. One of the revcoms took her on, insisting she give an example of when exactly it would be OK to FORCE a woman who doesn’t want to have a baby to carry a pregnancy, give birth to a baby, and be a mother against her will. She couldn’t do this, only try to cover over this reality. After some back and forth with the revcom, the students jumped in to make their own arguments against what she was saying – including that in their neighborhood, people don’t even know or have real access to sex education and birth control. The students took tons of stickers to take back to their neighborhood and get everywhere.
This needs to be amplified and spread in every corner of society now.
