Why can and should the fury of women become a mighty force for revolution? Because only an actual revolution can end the horrors that women experience under this system. From Mexico to Iran, from India to Chile, from Colombia to Poland, and in many other parts of the world, women have risen up against femicides, disappearances, rapes, abuse, and the relentless impunity of these misogynistic crimes. They also fight for the right to abortion, which is fundamental for their liberation, and against forced marriages, the mandatory veil, and the sexual slavery of millions of women in the world, especially migrants. Rebellions against these atrocities awaken, inspire and teach people, but do not break the chains of patriarchy. Because the capitalist system maintains and reinforces them, and uses both repression and deception to quell revolts.
Capitalism and Patriarchy—You Cannot End One Without Ending the Other
Why do there continue to be 10 or more murders of women a day in Mexico, with prosecutors who refuse to investigate, cover up the femicides and leave the majority of them unpunished? Why was the double murder of Ociel Baena, a non-binary electoral magistrate, and their partner Dorian Nieves declared a “crime of passion” by the Aguascalientes prosecutor, three hours after finding their bodies, without any investigation? Why were three trans women murdered in the first 15 days of 2024? Why, despite the Supreme Court ruling that decriminalized abortion, is abortion still criminalized in many states and most cannot access legal and safe abortion in much of the country? Why, instead of searching for the disappeared women and men, does the government fire searchers and create a “new census” that classifies almost half of the registered missing persons (62,000 of the more than 113,000) as “without sufficient data to identify the individual” or “without evidence that allow for the search,” and reduces the number of “confirmed” missing people to 12,377? Groups and experts point out that the objective of the “census” is to prettify the figures “for political reasons;” while the real number increases and they do not report about the new cases recorded each month. Why have six searchers been murdered in Guanajuato since 2020, and in January 2024, Lorenza Cano, a 55-year-old searcher, was kidnapped in Salamanca by armed men who killed her husband and son when they tried to prevent her from being taken? Why does the state refuse to hand over the 800 pages with evidence of the disappearance of the 43 Ayotzinapa teachers college students and why is the state dismantling the investigation so as to cover up the truth that the army participated in and covered up this terrible massacre?
This state does not exist to serve and protect the people, it exists to serve and protect the capitalist system that oppresses and exploits the people. It exists to maintain inequalities and injustices of gender, nationality, “race,” and class, which cannot be eliminated under capitalism. For this reason, only a revolution that overthrows and dismantles the capitalist system will open the way to build a socialist society, the necessary and possible change now, to liberate women, all oppressed and finally all of humanity.
The triumph of this revolution will make it possible to create a new state that serves the people, guided by the goal of ending all forms of oppression and exploitation. This will begin with dismantling the armed and police forces of the old system and confiscating the property of the imperialists and the Mexican big bourgeoisie so as to create a new socialist economy. A new political system will also be created, governed by a new Constitution. From the first moment, a new justice system will begin to be built, new revolutionary laws will be enacted, especially with respect to the rights of women, indigenous peoples and Afro-Mexicans, LGBTQ+ people, migrants, as well as of workers, peasants and others previously exploited and oppressed. New courts will prosecute counterrevolutionaries and others who have committed crimes against the people, applying a true “rule of law,” governed by socialist laws, without impunity, torture or corruption. The right to abortion will be legalized once and for all, and all forms of gender and nationality (or “race”) violence will be prohibited and punished. Furthermore, criminal cartels will be dismantled, the capitalist property of the big shots will be confiscated, and they and others who have committed blood crimes against the masses will be prosecuted. The rank-and-file of the criminal gangs will be given productive work, with a process so they transform their way of thinking. All of this will fundamentally depend on the revolutionary people, and the women will be a decisive force in the entire process—for the revolution to triumph in the first place and for it to move forward in each struggle to dig up the roots of patriarchy and other forms of oppression, and take forward the revolutionary transformation of every sphere of society, social relations, culture, and the way of thinking of the people.
Either We Make Revolution, or Everything Will Change for the Worst
Bob Avakian, revolutionary leader who has developed the new communism to guide revolutions in the world today, has made a very important point:
“We live under a system—the system of capitalism-imperialism (capitalism is an economic and political system of exploitation and oppression, and imperialism refers to the worldwide nature of this system).
“It is this system which is the basic cause of the tremendous suffering that people, all over the world, are subjected to; and this system poses a growing threat to the very existence of humanity, in the way that this system is rapidly destroying the global environment, and in the danger of war between nuclear-armed capitalist-imperialist powers, such as the U.S. and China.
“All this is reality, and no one can escape this reality. Either we radically change it, in a positive way, or everything will be changed in a very negative way.
“... Changing it in a positive way means making revolution—a real revolution, to overthrow this system of capitalism-imperialism and replace it with a radically different and emancipating system”—a whole new way to organize society.
The possibility of this revolution in the near future is not obvious to the naked eye, but it’s real. The sharpening of the deep contradictions of capitalism is creating horrors, but also crises which not only worsen the suffering of the people, but also intensify the divisions between the powers that be, bringing greater possibilities for revolution. For example, the faceoff between the fascists and the bourgeois democrats in the U.S. is tearing apart society and the institutions of the state and will most likely come to a head this year, which could lead to a civil war, to a consolidated fascist state, or to a real socialist revolution, which would reverberate throughout the world.
In Mexico, the greater militarization and involvement of the state with organized crime, as well as the attempts to reinforce the power of the executive in the style of the PRI’s “presidentialist” corporativist state in the past, reflect the fact that the ruling classes face increasing difficulties in continuing to rule as before. At the same time, an important part of the people cannot live as before, due to the ravages of global warming, the armed criminal gangs colluding with the state, the capitalist megaprojects that expel, subjugate and murder people, and ruthless patriarchal oppression. What is most needed now is to forge a growing leading revolutionary force, which prepares the ground, the revolutionary people and the communist leadership necessary to make revolution.
Reject the Electoral Trap: Join the Revolution Movement and Take Part in This Liberating Revolution
Faced with the great dangers stalking us, the powers that be are calling on us to vote for one or another candidate of the bourgeois parties, so as to “legitimize” the next government as the supposed “will of the people.” They yell at us that “these are women’s times,” but the candidates represent the same murderous system. Xóchitl Gálvez is automatically disqualified due to the perverse history of the PAN, PRI and PRD; Claudia Sheinbaum, as head of the Mexico City government of Morena, verbally attacked the righteous rebellion of women since 2019, sent her police to spy on and repress the activists with kettlings, beatings, gas, and arrests, and covered up the collapse of the Mexico City Subway Line 12 that killed 26 people and injured at least 100 more, with no culprit convicted. She vows to continue with the supposed “T4”—another government that will perpetuate the same horrors we are experiencing now and the worse ones that are to come soon1.
The Revolutionary Communist Organization, Mexico and the Revolution Movement, call on everyone who wants to put an end to male supremacy, who wants to fight for a liberating future for women and all humanity, to cast away the false illusion that voting for a bourgeois “lesser evil” will bring important “improvements” for the people. Revolution is urgent. See what is really at stake for the future of humanity and join now to take part in the struggle to prepare and make the real revolution that is needed.
