Los Angeles: Protesters Defending LGBTQ Children Attacked by Fascists and Arrested

Editors’ note: The following was released just after the August 22 arrest of two protesters described in this statement.

As part of the summer long intensifying fascist offensive attacking LGBTQ people, as part of the overall fascist program, 200 in the so called “Leave Our Kids Alone” movement, a fascist movement marching in the name of “Parents Rights,” called for a protest this morning in Downtown LA targeting the LA Unified School District. About 50 counter protesters came to oppose these fascists. A team of Revcoms came with 3 signs “In Defense of LGBTQ Rights and Lives. Fight The Power & Transform People for Revolution,” “We Are the Revcoms, we are working for a real revolution and a whole new emancipating way to live” and the image of Lauri Carleton who was murdered in Lake Arrowhead a few days ago by a gunman who was angry about her flying an LGBT pride flag in front of her store.

The fascists marched over to the LA Unified School District Headquarters where they announced they would “block the streets and give their speeches.” These kinds of demonstrations have involved harassment and violent assault against teachers and school administrators who support LGBT children.

So revcoms and others who were counter-protesting, also gathered where the LAUSD was having a board meeting to ensure people were not target of attacks, in defense of LGBT rights and lives. Along with our 3 signs (mentioned above) we led people in a chanting “We Refuse a Fascist America.” The LAPD pigs formed a line, forcefully began pushing people who were there in support of LGBT people, and at a certain point they began brutally hitting them with their batons, shoving them, and resulting in the arrest of 2 protesters, one a revcom.

THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS! These pigs have NO right to brutalize people who are RIGHTEOUSLY standing in defense of LGBTQ rights and lives, we demand their immediate release!
