The U.S.-Israeli criminal war against Iran has now raged for more than two weeks. Each day is filled with more atrocities against the Iranian people and other peoples in the region, especially Lebanon, from the U.S. and the genocidal terrorist state of Israel… more reckless threats and serious war crimes from Trump and Hegseth with ever more horrific weapons brought to bear… and more danger of this war spreading further out of control, like a forest fire that leaps a barrier and becomes an even more all-consuming, unstoppable firestorm.
In that light, No Kings Day on March 28 must mark an unprecedentedly massive outpouring not only against the Trump fascist regime but, as a crucial part of that, a massive protest against the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran. Even as the other horrible outrages of this fascist regime must be exposed, opposition to the U.S.-Israeli war must put its stamp on this day. What must ring out around the world is that THE U.S.-ISRAELI WAR AGAINST IRAN MUST STOP NOW!!!
It is positive that Indivisible has called for this, along with others, and it is also positive that Indivisible leaders have spoken out against the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran. At the same time, three things must be said:
- Every political force claiming any basic decency should have been out there from Day One of this aggressive imperialist war, mobilizing mass protest. Indivisible puts itself forward as a leading force in the resistance to the Trump regime. For Indivisible to stand aside while real horror was being perpetrated by the U.S. and Israel, and doing nothing other than pointing people to a demonstration a month down the line is immoral and unacceptable.

While Indivisible does put forward slogans opposed to this war on their website—and again, that is positive—they overwhelmingly focus people’s activity and thinking on pressuring members of Congress. This orientation toward “pressuring Congress” stands opposed to the actual need of the moment—which is relentless mass nonviolent action in the streets and in every institution insisting on an immediate END to the war, to the point of making the country ungovernable so that all social forces have to respond to that demand.
Even worse, Indivisible points people to the elections and the primaries as the key focuses of struggle. But this war, with its constantly intensifying horrors and its multiplying dangers, is going on NOW. The horrors being rained down are intensifying each day NOW. To channel people’s outrage and angst into supporting Democratic candidates in elections to be held months from now—elections which Trump will not respect and is already moving to steal!—means letting the fire continue to rage.
It goes deeper. From Hiroshima to Korea to Vietnam, from Iraq and Afghanistan to Iran—the Democratic Party as an institution has either led, supported or gone along with every criminal imperialist war this system has waged in the past 80 years (see “Body Count: Murdered by U.S. Army, Spy Agencies and Other Arms of the U.S. Government Since the End of World War 2”). Face it: The whole history of the Democratic Party shows it to be nothing less than a machine of war crimes and crimes against humanity. The Democrats preferred to lose an election rather than end its support for the genocidal Israeli war against Gaza and even banned Palestinian speakers from their convention!
Why? Because, as these Democrats will be the first to tell you, they support the American system. But the simple fact is that this democracy arises on and enforces a system of capitalism-imperialism—a system which could not last a day without the brutal and bitter exploitation this country carries out around the world—especially in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America—exploitation that involves 150 million child laborers. This military (which Democratic politicians never fail to salute and slobber over)—and the horrific wars it wreaks around the world—are to “serve and protect” that worldwide exploitation. The Democrats may have differences with the Republi-fascists over how that plunder is distributed—and right now there are very sharp differences over HOW this system should be ruled, with the Republicans moving rapidly to all-out fascism—but there is no essential difference over the system itself.
As the revolutionary leader Bob Avakian has said:
The essence of what exists in the U.S. is not democracy but capitalism-imperialism and political structures to enforce that capitalism-imperialism. What the U.S. spreads around the world is not democracy, but imperialism and political structures to enforce that imperialism.
And:
If you try to make the Democrats be what they are not and never will be, you will end up being more like what the Democrats actually are.
