Aside from what we cover elsewhere in this issue of our website that bear out what Bob Avakian says about the need to drive out the Trump fascist regime now, the following are three further examples from this past week. 

Trump Opens Up Alaska Wildlife Refuge to Vast New Oil Drilling

Last week, the Trump regime approved a sweeping plan to open vast new parts of Alaska’s wildlife refuge to oil and gas drilling—one of the most ecologically sensitive regions on the planet. On October 23, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) coastal plain—approximately 1.56 million acres—was officially made available for oil and gas leasing by Trump’s Interior Department, reversing previous protections.

This move carries grave danger both for Alaska’s fragile ecosystems that are already suffering the effects of climate change, as well as for the planet itself. The region is home to the birthing grounds of the Porcupine caribou herd, critical habitat for polar bears and migratory birds, and holds deep cultural significance for Indigenous peoples such as the Gwich’in, who consider the area to be sacred. 

Oil extraction here would not only damage wildlife habitats and risk catastrophic spills in an environment impossible to clean up—it would further lock humanity into fossil fuel dependence at the very moment when global emissions must be slashed to avert climate collapse. 

But this is not the Trump regime's first environmentally destructive decision. It fits a larger pattern of fascist environmental destruction: his so-called “energy dominance” agenda has gutted climate regulations, scrapped emissions standards, and empowered fossil fuel corporations to plunder public lands, all while suppressing or distorting climate science itself. As the world burns and glaciers melt, the Trump fascist regime doubles down on denial and destruction.

In light of the existential threat posed by this regime, the slogan “In the name of humanity, we refuse to accept a fascist America!” needs to ring louder than ever. Allowing Trump fascism to advance its rampage while ignoring the scientific warnings of climate devastation, means accepting a death sentence for future generations. We must act now, with urgency and determination, internalizing and acting on the words from the historic Call initiated by Refuse Fascism and open to all:

The Trump Fascist Regime is illegitimate. What it is demanding we become is unconscionable. At every level of society, in every institution, tens of millions of us know this in our bones. If we dare, we can defeat a horror that threatens humanity’s very survival. If we fail to even try, future generations — if they exist — will never forgive us.

MAGA Fascists Block Adelita Grijalva’s House Seat

In a special election on September 23, Democrat Adelita Grijalva was chosen by 70 percent of the vote to represent Arizona’s 7th Congressional District. The seat had been left vacant with the death of Raul Grijalva, her father. The election was officially certified on October 13 by the Arizona secretary of state. Adelita Grijalva is the first Latina from Arizona elected to Congress. 

So it seems like it would be a simple matter for Grijalva to take her rightful seat in the House of Representatives, right? Wrong!

Grijalva has been prevented from assuming her seat in Congress because the Christian-fascist speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, has refused to swear her in. Since her election, she’s been prevented from using government funds. She hasn’t been given a government email and doesn’t have a password for her government computer. She has to stand in long lines in order to have access to the U.S. Capitol for meetings rather than using the expedited entrance for government officials. Grijalva said, “I’m essentially a tourist to DC.” This is, in essence, a blatant case of voter disenfranchisement.

All that’s needed is for Grijalva to be sworn into office by Johnson. But Johnson has come up with one excuse after another as to why he’s obstructing her rightful place in the House. Finally, he said that Grijalva couldn’t be sworn in because the House is not in session. Lie! In April, Johnson had sworn in two Florida Republi-fascists in record time—within 24 hours after their elections—when the House was not in session. And the reason the House is not in session now is because Johnson has deliberately kept the House in recess as part of the Trump MAGA fascists’ battle with the Democrats over the government shutdown.

Grijalva and Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes are suing the House of Representatives to get her seated. Mayes wrote in an op-ed, “[H]ere we are in 2025, watching a speaker of the House deny representation to an entire congressional district because he doesn’t like the outcome of a free and fair election.”

Grijalva’s swearing in would strengthen the Democratic minority in the House and threaten the slim majority of the Republi-fascists. Many commentators say that one of the reasons Johnson is blocking Grijalva is that she would be the deciding signature on the petition that would force a vote on the House floor to release the government files on Jeffrey Epstein. Trump and most of the fascist regime are vehemently against the release of those files. (Go here for more on the controversy over Trump and Epstein.)

Johnson’s unprecedented and unlawful blocking of Adelita Grijalva’s House seating is part of Trump MAGA fascism’s breaking of all the norms and shredding of the rule of law and Constitutional principles of this system as it rushes to hammer their rule into place. 

It is right and important to defend the rights of people that are supposed to be guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution as part of defeating this fascism—but this can’t be done by relying on the very norms and mechanisms of this system that the fascists are smashing. What is urgently needed is a mass nonviolent uprising of millions aimed at nothing less than driving this fascist regime from power.

The Trump Regime Is Intentionally Cutting Off Food Aid on November 1—Unleashing Hunger on More Than 40 Million People and Blaming Immigrants and Transgender People for Their Own Fascist Cruelty!

Every word of this headline is plain truth. Here is the back story:

The U.S. is a capitalist country, which means that chronic and often severe hunger is baked in, even in the midst of lavish wealth. But to try and mitigate this somewhat and keep it from causing discontent and protest, since the Great Depression of the 1930s, the ruling capitalists have set up programs to provide a safety net of food, especially for children and for pregnant mothers. The main current program is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). SNAP has not eliminated hunger, which stalks tens of millions every day. But it has largely prevented outright starvation.

The fascist Trump regime hates even these minimal benefits to working class and poor people, and Trump’s so-called “Big Beautiful Budget” signed on July 4 cut $186 billion from SNAP’s budget, along with imposing many, many other reactionary measures (such has massively funding ICE).

In early October, Congress was supposed to authorize payout of the budgeted funds. The Republi-fascists demanded that the Democrats simply agree to the budget as is. The Democrats refused, in an attempt to at least partially beat back the fascist onslaught. The full scope of this fight is beyond this article. In part, the Democrats are demanding that the Republicans agree to retain a program supplementing the healthcare insurance of more than 20 million people. If this program expires, health insurance premiums will go up by thousands of dollars annually—roughly five million people are expected to lose health insurance entirely.

But the Republi-fascists have refused to even negotiate. As a result, the government cannot make payments and has largely shut down, throwing government employees out of work, or forcing certain essential federal employees—like air traffic controllers—to continue working without any pay. Many of these people have now joined the ranks of those needing food aid. 

The shutdown has brought a lot of hardship, but certain things—including the SNAP program—are supposed to be protected even in this situation. There is a standing fund that exists to cover SNAP, and in previous government shutdowns SNAP and similar programs continued running smoothly.

This week, the fascist regime announced it would not access that fund, and instead would halt SNAP payments. And it said that if state governments step in to fund the missing SNAP payments, they will not be reimbursed by the federal government even when the government reopens. 

So this means that as of November 1, roughly 46 million people will lose a significant part of their food supply until the shutdown ends. That’s about one person in eight in the U.S., plunged overnight into a desperate situation.

On top of that, the fascists are using their own criminal action to incite hungry and angry people against other oppressed. Go to the SNAP website, and you will get this message: 

At this time, there will be no benefits issued November 01.… [The Democrats] can continue to hold out for healthcare for illegal aliens and gender mutilation procedures or reopen the government so mothers, babies, and the most vulnerable among us can receive critical nutrition assistance.

In other words, immigrants and transgender people who have zero power over the government—and not the fascists who actually hold power—are responsible for the suffering of other poor people. 

This drives home yet again and more sharply the need to drive the Trump regime from power now, as well as the need for a whole new world that is about overcoming and healing the bleeding psychological and physical wounds this system inflicts on humanity. 

It’s important to take this message out to people who are right now under fire and bring them into this fight. The cutting of SNAP aid is expected to lead to many more people going to food banks across the country. We encourage people to go out to the lines at food banks, especially over the next few days, with the call initiated by RefuseFascism.org and open to all, for determined nonviolent sustained protest beginning November 5, aimed at driving this fascist regime from power.
