Supreme Court to Hear Abortion Pill Case

Legal Abortion on Demand and Without Apology—Nationwide!

On Tuesday, March 26, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on whether states can ban or drastically reduce the use of mifepristone, the abortion pill. Mifepristone is an incredibly safe drug, safer than Tylenol, and is used in more than 50 percent of abortions in this country. In recent years, the government has allowed the pills to be prescribed online, mailed to patients and dispensed at storefront pharmacies.

But—as part of an all-out fascist assault on the right for women to decide when and whether to have a child—the ability to access these pills has been attacked in the courts. The fascist-packed Supreme Court will hear this case and decide whether to uphold restrictions on mifepristone, or even ban it outright.

February 25, 2023. Protest in Seattle about the threat to Mifepristone, a threat which is even more urgently posed now.    

Depending on the outcome, this could have a devastating impact on millions of women nationwide. It could make medication abortion—the most common form of abortion in the country—unavailable even in states where abortion is currently legally protected by state law or state constitution! Also, this would represent a leap in the theocratic—bible-based—justification of the enslavement and subordination of women and a major shredding of the rule of law.

The Supreme Court’s decision on these issues is likely to come in June. What happens with this case is not yet determined but overall, as it says in the proclamation, We Are the Revcoms:

Shaping up before us now are two fundamentally opposed futures: Something Terrible, Or Something Truly Emancipating. And this truth rings out now more powerfully than ever: Which future we get depends to a great extent on what we do.
