A full picture of what was involved with the attempted assassination of Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania—including the motivation of the shooter—is not clear at this point. But whatever the actual motivation of the shooter, and whatever might be involved with this, it has nothing to do with any positive change, and certainly nothing to do with an emancipating transformation of society, which can only be brought about through a revolution, involving millions of people and aiming to sweep away this whole system and replace its relations and institutions of exploitation and oppression, and its putrid culture, with ones that are liberating and uplifting.
What happened at the Donald Trump rally on Saturday, July 13 is a very big deal that is bound to have all kinds of major implications and consequences, in terms of developments in this country (and the world as a whole).
This has to be taken very seriously. Here are four truths that must be said about this now, as we continue to analyze rapidly unfolding events.
One: The shooting of Donald Trump at his rally on July 13 took place at a time when this country is already being torn apart by divisions that can no longer be covered over. Things cannot be put back together the way they were.
Those who rule this country were already at each other’s throats over how—not whether—to carry out the exploitation, domination and ecological destruction this capitalist system requires. This shooting and the response of the fascists to it has intensified this fight. No one can predict how this will unfold.
But one thing is for sure. What Bob Avakian (BA), the revolutionary leader and architect of the new communism, analyzed four years ago is being borne out: “Radical change is coming.” The question BA went on to ask is the question we have to answer: “Will it be emancipating, or enslaving—revolutionary, or reactionary?”
Two: Trump is a violence-mongering fascist.
MAGA fascists have seized on the shooting of Donald Trump to insist that all talk of another Trump presidency as “an existential threat” or “fascist” must stop. Meanwhile, they are elevating Trump to the status of a religious martyr and doubling down on their fanatical hunger for vengeance, constantly chanting “Fight! Fight! Fight!”
No! The truth is… Trump is a fascist who encourages and delights in the most depraved and reactionary “political violence.” Trump hailed the vigilante punks who threatened and even killed demonstrators during the 2020 uprising against police murder and repression. He threatens his political opponents with jail and even executions. He joked when a would-be assassin broke the skull of Nancy Pelosi's husband with a hammer. He threatens shoplifters with on-the-spot executions. He did nothing while fascist mobs threatened his own vice president with hanging. Trump has already shown on January 6 that he is willing to use this violence to impose fascist rule in this country—to enforce an agenda of open white supremacy, patriarchal oppression of women and LGBTQ people, hatred of people not born here, and straight up biblical rule. This is not slander. This is the TRUTH, and it must be called out over and over for what it is: FASCISM.
Three. Stop wishing for the Democrats to save you! The Democrats are a party of war crimes and enablers of fascism.
The Democrats' differences with the MAGA fascists are real and profound, but they are differences over how to rule this monstrous system of capitalism-imperialism. The Democrats want to cling to the “norms” through which this country has long been ruled, while the fascists have been relentlessly shredding these norms. As Bob Avakian said recently: “As a form of political rule, fascism represents the undisguised dictatorship of the capitalist-imperialist ruling class, essentially doing away with the pretense of democracy and rights for the people and openly relying on violence and terrorizing people to enforce this dictatorship.”
The cold truth is that the Democrats themselves are a party of war crimes and crimes against humanity from the Trail of Tears in 1831 where Native people died by the thousands right down to today in Gaza. On top of that, the Democrats will never fight the fascists the way they need to be fought. They can't do this because a key part of their program is to preserve—and cling to—the very norms of this oppressive system that the fascists are shredding. And they won't do this because they fear that doing so could unleash the masses of people who are opposed to this fascism in a way that gets way out of control of the Democrats and the system they enforce.
But the truth is that the intense and profound fight between the Democrats and the Republi-fascists is a big part of what makes a real and liberating revolution MORE possible in this time.
Four. We need a whole new way to live, a fundamentally different system. We need and we demand: REVOLUTION!
Now is not a time to choose between Genocide Joe Biden or MAGA fascist Trump. Now is the time to seize on the deepening fight among the rulers and the divides throughout society to get organized and prepared for a real revolution. A revolution means a force of millions, drawn from many different parts of society and organized for an all-out fight to overthrow this system and replace it with a radically different and much better economic and political system, a socialist system, based on meeting the needs of the people and carrying forward the fight for a communist world where there will finally be an end, everywhere, to the exploitation, oppression, and destruction of the environment that is built into this system of capitalism-imperialism.
