Over 1,000 people attended the National Convention of the Women's March in Houston on the weekend of August 13-14. A booth staffed by members of Rise Up 4 Abortion Rights (RU4AR) was, as one of the RU4AR volunteers said, "MOBBED" throughout Saturday. "Our booth, our materials—stickers, posters, bandanas, which were highly in demand, seemed to be a major pole of attraction. People were looking for a way to ACT and they found it. The photos of the green wave in Argentina and the bold actions like Guido on the bridge elicited an emotional response with two people I can remember saying they literally got goosebumps."
Hundreds of packets containing Rise Up leaflets, stickers, a green bandanna, and the Rise Up response, "To Those Who Would Rather Lie, Slander, and Attack Rise Up 4 Abortion Rights Than Unite All Who Can be United Against This Fascist Assault," were distributed. Funds were raised to support RU4AR's efforts. Women from big cities and from towns in Colorado and Utah and places like Lansing, Michigan, and Texarkana, Texas/Arkansas, met with the staffers.
On Sunday, a crew of Revcom supporters also went to the convention. People came to the convention not only looking for ways to act but with questions and thoughts about why the right to abortion is under attack, where does this attack go from here and what objectively is a fascist offensive, what does the future hold, with a few saying we need a revolution but with some different understandings of what that means. The Revcom supporters directed people to BA’s "Something Terrible, Or Something Truly Emancipating...," with a brief explanation of why we are confronting the specter of a fascist America, but also why these are rare times when revolution becomes possible. The Revcoms raised funds for the Revolution website, sold "Forced Motherhood Is Female Enslavement" T-shirts to raise money for the National Tour to Organize for an ACTUAL Revolution, and distributed hundreds of palm cards for Bob Avakian's "Something Terrible, Or Something Truly Emancipating..."
