Fascist Trump visited Los Angeles to see the aftermath of the fires that are destroying large parts of the LA area. He took this opportunity to attack Democratic leaders. First, he threatened to withhold federal aid unless the state adopts new voter ID laws. Then, at a roundtable conversation with Mayor Karen Bass and other local officials, instead of the normal pledging to work together to work with the state on disaster aid—Trump made a point of attempting to humiliate the mayor, spouting all kinds of really absurd nonsense about how badly the local authorities have managed the fire and talking over them to signal that they are not government officials to be worked with but instead are to be disciplined and gone after.
Revcom Corps protests Trump in LA
THE REVCOM CORPS For The Emancipation Of Humanity organized a car caravan and protest to oppose not only Trump's visit but this whole fascist program. Some people who marched with us on Trump’s Inauguration Day came out, and others very new who had seen videos on social media of the protest on Inauguration Day, joined us. People came out because they are very outraged and recognize the danger of what Trump is doing. A young guy expressed feeling scared for his family who are immigrants. He said he's afraid they might just come knocking at his door and take his family. His family insisted that they move to Mexico, but he said he wants to stay and fight.
We took a car caravan through the neighborhood of Altadena, which was just completely burned down. Driving through a very heavy scene of just ashes and rubble of what once was people's homes, we spoke to people about what we are facing, this fascism with Trump pouring gasoline on the fire, with his calls for "drill, baby, drill" making the climate catastrophe even worse. We called on people to be part of building mass opposition to this fascism with the aim of defeating it. And bringing to people the reality that we could live a whole different way, that we need a real revolution to abolish this system of capitalism which spawned this fascism and through its workings creates this climate destruction and devastation. We read to people the words of Bob Avakian:
We, the people of the world, can no longer afford to allow these imperialists to continue to dominate the world and determine the destiny of humanity. They need to be overthrown as quickly as possible. And it is a scientific fact that we don't have to live this way.
