Video of presentation of “Something Terrible Or Something Truly Emancipating” at the International Book Fair—Palacio de Minería, Mexico City, in Spanish.
On March 5, 2023, within the International Book Fair—Palacio de Minería (FIL-PM), Mexico City, a significant presentation was given of the work by Bob Avakian, SOMETHING TERRIBLE, OR SOMETHING TRULY EMANCIPATING: Profound Crisis, Deepening Divisions, The Looming Possibility Of Civil War—And The Revolution That Is Urgently Needed, A Necessary Foundation, A Basic Roadmap For This Revolution. This presentation was given by Ángel Sandoval, from the Revolution Movement. The video of the presentation was recently posted at Aurora Roja, the voice of the Revolutionary Communist Organization (OCR), Mexico.
For our English readers, the speaker explains the current situation in the U.S. and the three conditions necessary for a revolution there: unresolvable divisions in the ruling class such that they can no longer rule as they have been; a revolutionary people fed up with the system and willing to put things on the line to make a revolution to get rid of all the horrors under the capitalist-imperialist system; and an organized revolutionary force and leadership. He also speaks to the internationalist duty of people in Mexico, quoting from Revolutionary Hope, a work by the OCR, in making a revolution in Mexico.
At this book fair, books and pamphlets from RCP Publications have been sold at a booth for over 30 years, with lively engagement from people in Mexico City and elsewhere in the country. The book fair is open to the public in general and is aimed at direct sales to the masses of people. It attracts over 100,000 people in the course of 12 days, including: university, high school and primary school students, and professors and teachers; musicians, artists and actors; basic masses; peasants; union activists; researchers; street vendors; activists of various political trends; and even members of the federal legislature. There are hundreds of booths from book publishers and hundreds of events: book presentations; book readings; drama, dance and musical events; activities for children; and a whole range of other cultural activities.
