Prisoners Write about Bob Avakian

Editors’ note: Prisoners were asked on an annual survey by the Prisoners Revolutionary Literature Fund (PRLF) what they think about Bob Avakian. Prisoners regularly receive a 20-page newsletter from PRLF that contains articles from the most recent issues of Revolution newspaper, including all the articles by Bob Avakian. PRLF volunteers send the newsletter two times a month to about 750 prisoners in 40 states. Printing and mailing the newsletter costs $3,000 per month. We at revcom.us periodically publish letters from prisoners on revolutionary theory and struggle, as well as other aspects of human experience and thought, including conditions and struggle within the prisons themselves. We appreciate and learn from all correspondence from the prisons. The opinions in the letters we publish are those of the writers and not necessarily those of revcom.us. The following are excerpts from prisoner responses to PRLF’s annual survey. The links within the prisoner responses were added by PRLF.

Illinois: “I like how Bob Avakian is uncompromising, in the face of popular opinion…”

North Carolina: “BA’s takes are always fresh, and courageous, such as not being afraid to take on this “Woke” divisive ideology, while trying to really unify oppressed peoples.”

Illinois: “‘Something Terrible, Or Something Truly Emancipating’ should act as a wakeup call to everyone who reads it. As always Bob Avakian offers clear and practical solutions to the problems facing humanity, and we’d all be better off if people would just listen. The Constitution for the New [Socialist] Republic in North America is important because most people can’t visualize anything different until you put it right in their face.”

Virginia: “We are at the brink of fascism or revolution. We must fight the assault on women’s right to abortion, the disenfranchised right to vote. What kind of future do we really want. They can only get away with this sh*t, if we tolerate it. Away With All Gods! was my first BA book, and it really got me into him. The New Communism is what I’m deep into now.”

Federal: “Yes, leftist populists and panderers leave out the people. BA brings the people element to the forefront, and shows steps how. It’s easy to say what is wrong. BA has ideas to bring the people aright.”

California: “BA has had an enormous influence—has changed—how I now view world affairs. Truth and science matter. Thanks, by the way.”

Washington: “…BA is not the average white man. At first, I was upset that a white man thought he could speak on black liberation, but then I learned of his participation with the black panthers, and felt ashamed in my assumption.”

Pennsylvania: “BA’s writings emphasize the way I feel about the world.”

Pennsylvania: “This ['Something Terrible, Or Something Truly Emancipating’] was my favorite! I studied this article for several hours… You recently sent a copy of BAsics which shows he’s a man of extreme intelligence…”

Pennsylvania: “By studying BA’s works and the [PRLF] newsletters, I am able to see things as they are, and engage in dialectical thinking. Thank you so much for the wake up! Looking forward to further studying.”

We are at a turning point in history. The capitalist-imperialist system is a horror for billions of people here and around the world and threatening the very fabric of life on earth. Revcom.us projects BA’s voice, leadership, and vision throughout society. It posts his timely leadership for the revcoms (revolutionary communists) and the whole movement for revolution, including his social media posts, and curates his whole body of work. 

Our website applies the scientific approach BA has developed to analyze major events in society and the world—why they are happening, how they relate to each other, how all this relates to the system we live under, where people's interests lie, how revolution is in fact the solution to all this, and what the goals of that revolution are.

Revcom.us acts as a guiding and connecting hub for the revcom movement nationwide: showing what’s being done, digging into what’s right and what’s wrong, and rapidly learning—and recruiting new people into what has to be a rapidly growing force. As part of this, revcom.us feature and promotes the weekly The RNL—Revolution, Nothing Less!—Show on YouTube.com. 

Put it this way: there will be no revolution unless this website not only “keeps going” but rises to a whole different level!
