Mexico City Teachers Strike June 2026 - Humanity Needs Revolution and the New Communism
This banner was on display during the teachers’ strike and march on Thursday, June 11, when the World Cup began. From the start of the protests a week earlier, the strike faced government repression, despite the government’s lies that “we do not repress.” Mexico City police used tear gas, firecrackers, and rubber bullets against the crowd from the very start of the demonstration. A shot to the eyes blinded Proceso Columbo González, a teacher from Guerrero. Another teacher was struck in the cheekbone by a metal rod thrown by the police. In Mitla, Oaxaca, the Morena mayor led a riot squad that fired on a group of teachers, wounding several. Another teacher in Oaxaca, Lauro Morales Bautista, was killed during the strike. These are just a few examples of the repression against the teachers’ strike, protests by families of the disappeared, students, and others in the context of the World Cup. They add to the endless list of crimes committed by the current capitalist system dominated by imperialism. We need a radically different and much better system. Humanity needs revolution and the new communism.
