This past weekend, the Global Sumud (“resistance” or “steadfastness” in Arabic) Flotilla set off again for Gaza with some 47 vessels. Over 500 volunteers are onboard the boats, including prominent figures such as Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg and Irish actor Liam Cunningham, a contingent of U.S. vets, and political figures from Europe and Africa.
Their departure follows the seventh Israeli attack on this Flotilla. On September 23, some 12 drones attacked the vessels in international waters off the Greek island of Gavdos, jamming communications and exploding over some of the boats. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Naval ships from Italy, Spain and Greece are now escorting the Flotilla for “rescue and humanitarian” assistance in international waters. (Italy said its ships will not engage with anyone militarily.)
The Flotilla aims to break Israel’s blockade of food, water, medicine and other goods, and deliver urgently needed humanitarian aid to Gaza, as well as call attention to Israel’s genocide against the Palestinian people.
Israel has repeatedly threatened that it will not allow the Flotilla to reach Gaza or deliver aid.
The extreme humanitarian emergency in Gaza and Israel’s ongoing threats highlight the urgency of broad, international support for the very courageous action of the Global Samud Flotilla. People should pay close attention to its journey, and immediately protest and speak out against any Israeli attacks or efforts to stop their vital mission.
