A crew of revcoms and Revolution Club New York City members marched into the small crowd of about 60 pro-immigrant protesters in the Riverdale section of the Bronx in New York City, with bullhorn blaring and the chant ringing out – No Hate, No Fear, Immigrants Are Welcome Here! The chant, the defiance and the presence of the revcoms brought out a more coherent and compelling expression of the existing protesters' outrage and anger. Across the street were about 40 anti-immigrant fascists milling about in front an old college dorm NYC proposed turning into housing for a few of the over 100,000 immigrants who have been shipped to New York City from Texas. They have been used like pawns in the cynical and self-serving political jockeying that is going on between Eric “Black Giuliani” Adams and Biden in Washington DC.
Curtis Sliwa, who organized the reactionary Guardian Angels vigilante group in the 1980s, has resurfaced again as a fascist organizer against these desperate immigrants who are seeking asylum in the U.S. He has organized ugly hateful rallies of hundreds in Brooklyn, and about 1,000 in Staten Island, and now this small rally in the Bronx so far, and he isn’t stopping. The terms being set are very bad for the people and the revcoms went into this protest determined to change that dynamic and work on repolarizing for revolution.
Even while the presence of the revcoms brought the righteous protest against these fascists to a higher level, there was also some controversy and discomfort among some of the activist forces there about the revcoms being there and what we had to say. They were pulling to keep the protest within certain bounds and talk of revolution was way outside of those boundaries!
Our agitation included Bob Avakian’s point about “Why do these people come here from all over the world?” As he says, because the U.S. has fucked up the rest of the world even worse than they have done here. And calling out people who want the “goodies” of imperialism but then howl and moan because people are driven here by the workings of that imperialist system.
We read out from the declaration We Need and We Demand: A Whole New Way to Live, A Fundamentally Different System where it says that in the new society after the revolution, “immigrants from all parts of the world who have a sincere desire to contribute to goals of the new socialist republic will be welcome in this republic.” And we invited everyone on “our side” of the street to come and dig into the reasons this is happening at Revolution Books, Wednesday, September 27, at 7 pm, for an emergency forum: We Don’t Have an Immigration Problem, We Have an Imperialism Problem!
